Hi, MoonShell hasn't worked on my M3SD since V1.0 came out. I am
using 0.992 right now but would like to try the latest version. I just get
the message: "not support ext.MP3" when I try to start an MP3. Anyone
else experiencing the same issue?

Make sure you have the /shell and /shell/plugins folders on your SD card.

Thanks, that fixed the problem and it's working great now. Previous
releases worked without the extra files so I overlooked them. :)

#76324 - m2pt5 - Mon Mar 20, 2006 5:07 pm

I think it was with 1.0 final beta that he moved everything out into seperate plugin files. Just use the setup.exe and point it at your card, and it'll set you up.

I have been using the SCSD alternate version for a few days now and it seems quite stable. The default sound font for the midi plugin doesn't sound very good with Moonlight's sample midis, though. I have not yet tried the new midi plugin yet because I don't have the room for it, so I'll try it soon. Otherwise most other music sounds the same as with version 1.0. I have not noticed any difference so far.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is the difference between normal Moonshell and the SCSD alt. version? Does it use the SRAM onboard the SC where the normal version does not? Well whatever the difference is, it seems to be working fine. Thanks for the continued development!

Just tested it out and the new version Midi support is fantastic.

I haven't found a single Midi that doesnt work.

Obviously sound quality varies a lot, volumes of instruments seem unbalanced, as well as some sounds clearly not supported (I want my reverse cymbals :p)
But overall, its amazing.

Also I noticed a Photoshop file plugin O_O
Haven't worked out quite how to install it yet...think it needs to be compiled first.

This so far has been my biggest complaint about MIDI playback engines and sound banks: they don't seem to run their samples through Replay Gain, so instruments end up emphasized incorrectly on any machine other than your own.

MoonShell 1.1 has been published. I dont quite now what has happened.
I just wanted to say that I have found a bug in Unicode Windows CharSet. When I activate it filenames with unicode are shown nice. I have just testet with ? (u with two dots ontop). But in a text file the text just stops at the first unicode symbol showing only one ? for the unicode and then its stops showing the text.

Not coming MoonShell for G6. It's sad. :(

I e-mailed G6/M3 team asking if they would compile 1.0 or version 1.1 and the reply was:
"We heard that the MoonShell version 1.0 & 1.1 has some problem in this monent. So we will do that later."

Maybe later means after MoonShell is stable enough. Oh that sadness.

From past:
When I asked for a new MoonShell version when there was only 0.3 (for G6) out they compiled v0.999. It didn't take more than few days when they pull it back and released v0.992. I have no idea why. That v0.999 is downloadable from the first post.

I have decided that I will buy other cart/adapter for MoonShell and media stuff. Maybe M3 SD Mini (If it's later supported. I assume it acts like M3 SD.). I also have wondered if the EZ SD mini is a good one.

Maybe the G6 team needs the version fixed for EXFS? In that case, isn't that included with Moonshell v1.1?

I have a question about sound font. there are three of them: gmmap, sc55map, and sc88prom. which one should I use? I have M3 CF

#76572 - Roc - Wed Mar 22, 2006 8:43 pm

I have a question. Feel free to shout at me if it's silly :) Will it ever be possible for someone to write emulator plugins for Moonshell? Gameboy for example, where you would just select the .gb file within the Moonshell file browser, and it opens like a DPG or MP3 does now. I understand there are CPU and RAM limitations which would probably make it impossible, but I thought I may as well ask.

#76574 - MaHe - Wed Mar 22, 2006 10:01 pm

Just what I was thinking right now :>
But no - I doubt. Maybe somebody could try writing them using the plugin SDK, but I'm worried about the buttons :)

#76615 - Darkflame - Thu Mar 23, 2006 2:20 am

What you want, basicaly, is for
a) A version of Goomba emulator for the DS
b) The emulator ties up with a moonshell plugin

Its not impossible by any means,but it would be an emulation issue more then a moonshell one.

#76620 - tepples - Thu Mar 23, 2006 2:33 am

The obvious way to implement it is a MoonShell plug-in capable of loading, say, nesDS.nds file and passing either the ROM contents or the filename to the emulator somehow.

This doesn't work on EZ Flash 2 PS..
Next file in mp3 = freeze
Next picture file = freeze

Or is this a known issue?

Other than that, it looks great :)

Well, surely it can just be left as a path name in ram?

I have a question. What happened to the SCSD alt version in the Setup.exe file for v1.1? Has it replaced the other SC version?

not support ext.MID

I get this whenever I try to play a midi. I have the /shell/ and /shell/plugins/ where they should be. Any tips? Using GBAMP CF, FlashMe V7, Moonshell 1.1, and it won't work with any midis, even ones I made myself (if that would make any difference, since mine are small and with fewer instruments than most midis).

Thanks in advance for any help.

#76843 - tssf - Sat Mar 25, 2006 9:50 am

I don't know about MoonShell 1.1 but in earlier betas, there was an NDS file in the shell directory you had to run to play MIDI files.

I had not heard about this before today, but I wonder if Moonshell will run on the new M3 MiniSD version?:
http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=8910&start=0

And, if not, if we might expect a version in the future to support it? Or would that be dependent on support from Chishm's FAT driver?

Given that miniSD is more than likely electrically identical to SD, I'd expect the M3's low level interface to be the same.

Same problem here. BTW, Moonshell has always acted very sensitive when loaded from my flashcart (same model), easily crashing without notice.

Look in the setup...there's an option specifically for a version working with the M3 MiniSD. Apparently you can read it exactly the same way as the M3 SD, but it needs it's own version because stock MoonShell detects it as something other than an M3 SD for some reason.

would you guys know by chance?

#77203 - Durandle - Wed Mar 29, 2006 9:07 am

Its worth noting that in order to run Moonshell on the M3 (SD or CF) you need to start it using the START button instead of the A button. Pressing A makes it freeze. This could be the the problem a lot of people are complaining about.

I know I am. i never had to do that for the early MoonShells. It's also weird because the SC versions of MoonShell, if I start that with "A", it loads fine with no problems, and even reads off my CF.. I think I'll use that version from now on. :)

In G6 Team's v0.992 release inside the Setup.ini there is:
Code:
[system]
TargetDrive=EXFS
ExistBackup=1
[configuration]
global.ini=1
desktop.bmp=1
startup.mp3=1
[language]
Update=1
CodePage=936
AllItemChk=0
[rom]
Normal=1
SuperCard=1
I noticed that SuperCard=1 value. Does it have anything to do with supporting G6's U-Disk? I just wondered if the G6 cart's space is handled similar to SuperCard's space?

Btw, G6/M3 team refused to make newer support than for v0.999. I wonder why?

Because of the plug-in system, I'd wager. :) Maybe they're afraid they'd have to release plug-ins for some of their extra features, or maybe their ability to view text and listen to music at the same time is messed up somehow because of it. Their loss.

I got the 8-bit SC-88ProMAP. Midis sound very nice. Does the 16-bit version help? Or does it take up too much memory?
I do notice a lot of midis freeze moonshell though. IE, no buttons work. For example, http://www.vgmusic.com/music/other/miscellaneous/piano/Egadd.mid crashes it for me.

Oh, and it turns out my moonshell111_full.7z.001 was different than your's. No problem, I just found it elsewhere anyhow. And now the official site is back.

Hey guys, I have yet to try the 1.1 build, anyway I had a problem with the 1version (my mate falcon should already know about that^_^): I converted a movie (stewie griffin: the untold story^^) using dpgtools included in the moonshel v1 package. The movie plays fine but I get a terrible audio desync if I do fast forward or rewind. Is there a solution to this prob? Does the 1.1 fix this in any way? Since it's a long movie it's horrible not to be able to fwd or rew!
let me know, thanks to all=)

Hmm... it looks like the plugin system is still evolving :)
Is this a plugin that boots on startup, or does it have to be explicitly activated?
If it's activated by the user, how is it done?

To activate the clock plugin, replace your MoonShell NDS file with the _BOOT_MP.nds, place the BIN, INI and MSP files of your clock skin of choice in your shell/plugins/ dir, and add the following lines to your shell/global.ini:
Quote:
[ClockPlugin]

Enabled=1

; --------------------

The clock itself is working perfectly for me, but this new version (v1.13) doesn't exit video files properly. When pressing B during playback, the current frame of the video file will stay at the top screen, and the file select screen will activate on the bottom screen. Other filetypes can still be executed, but since the desktop isn't visible it's pretty useless. The MoonShell NDS file can be executed from within MoonShell though, so that kind of acts as a soft reboot.

When you set clock off and open for example text file it does not open the file browser anymore (upper screen goes black). So it's not only about video files.

That's weird...I wonder if it's something with the server or his web browser?

The clock has one... what should I call it? Bug, lack.

When the clock turns from 2 digits on the hours to 1 digit (Eg 12 - 1 or 23 - 0) the last digit will still there. So if you turn the clock in at 11 am and wait till 1-2-3 somthing, then the clock will show 11.00-1200-13.00. (If it's 12-hour time) Not really that much effort to press a button and wait 10 secs though.

#78620 - quadomatic - Sat Apr 08, 2006 2:43 pm

is everyone still having the video and audio desync and a dithering effect when encoding at 24fps? why is that still happening?

#78632 - Mr. Picklesworth - Sat Apr 08, 2006 4:24 pm

I'm getting audio desynchronizing when encoding a video which was originally 24 FPS (and still keeping it at 24 FPS) using DPGEnc.

The source video has no syncronization problems.
Changing the bitrate seems to have an effect on the result... (The lower it is, the less desyncronized it is).

Try lowering the frame rate. MoonShell might not be able to decode it fast enough at 24fps.

#78641 - compacho - Sat Apr 08, 2006 5:30 pm

Anyone know where I can get older versions of DPGEnc seeing as the current version can't recognize the audio in any of my videos while older versions had no problems.

#78664 - Mr. Picklesworth - Sat Apr 08, 2006 7:19 pm

Wow... I didn't realize the forbidden page message was so stupid!
How can someone find "any email address or phone number listed on the forum.gbadev.org home page" if they are forbidden access to it? :P

Anyway, that looks to me like an Internet problem on Moonlight's end.
Whatever it is, I hope it's resolved soon!

Is Moonlight using Microsoft Internet Explorer? If so, it has a habit of replacing sites' error messages with its own.

how should it work?

#79247 - trigger - Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:30 pm

Hope this is the right place to ask... I recently bought a supercard, and found moonshell. I want to place som software on the cards from my camera and use moonshell to browse the pictures. So basically I would like to have a vstripped version of moonshell only to display jpegs. Also I would like moonshell to display the pictures "full screen" in stead of at 100% which forces me to zoom out every picture first.

Is that possible at all???

Thanks, Peter

#79288 - Mr. Picklesworth - Wed Apr 12, 2006 6:35 pm

Yep. that's possible.
Just delete evey plugin in your shell/plugins folder except for the JPG one.

Although, if you want it soley for viewing jpgs... DSOrganize has a pretty nice jpg viewer that suits your particular wants. (No zoom though).

Is it just me, or does Moonshell not automatically boot on the SCSD even when it's named _BOOT_MP.NDS? Or do I need to hold Start or something? It seems I need to manually launch it each time, which is fine. I'm just curious if it was something I was doing wrong.

As far as I know, Supercard doesn't have any auto NDS loading at the moment. You have to launch it from the supercard menu every time.

is there a clickwheel plugin? that would be great. The bottom touch screen would display a clickweel from the iPod and function just like one. The top screen would display a browser just like the iPod.

That was my first goal, yes, but after exploring the possibilities and potential of moonshell, I might create another multimedia card to show favorite pictures and play mp3's and read ebooks...

It looks like a Compact Flash Type II card.. Perhaps it's a mini hard drive, but it would probably suck more power out of the DS because of the moving parts in the card.

The movie player itself is simply modified to accomodate CF type II cards (which is completely compatible with type I cards, but simply having thicker shells)

The fact that it's playing on a DS Lite is as impressive..

EDIT: Or not. Hmm. it seems the shell is quite different to that of a regular Movie Player, or M3...

That's correct. If you look at the upper screen it says */MPCF/*

Hm, here's a bug of some sort. In the text viewer, "Anim? North" shows up as "Anim orth". O_o Skipping the ? makes sense, but keeping the space and skipping the character after that? Weird.

#79654 - Dwedit - Sat Apr 15, 2006 12:55 am

Probably misinterpreting the 8-bit ascii for UTF-8.

ok,
since im board...
im gonna make a list of cool things that moonshell should have in my oppion

Code:

1)a screen saver
- moonlight has made a glib wave demo maybe he should add that to moonshell so when you don't use moonshell for 1minute and 30seconds or something it will go into the wave demo and make random waves :)

2)a slide show
- you should be able to like press both the triggers in a directory and it will start a full dual-screen slide show that pushes images through the bottom to top :D, then you could have so awsome music running too,
if you say have songs numbered in that directory too :P

3)running skin switcher :P
- you would be able to test out diffrent skins with out computer interference(like having to go on the computer and move skin folders... blah blah)

4)voice simulator
- you can open a text document and the ds will read it to you 0_o,
someone made a voice simulator demo before, and i think moonshell could use it :P

5)two diffrent moonshells :P
- one for people who just wanna use it for launching games etc... simple functions blah...
another for people that want the 1-4 i listed above :)

i realize this is asking a lot,
but im just suggesting things that would be SO cool to have with-in moonshell :P,
at the least i would think the screen saver would be the easiest since he just has to make it so instead of the black light going out,
in launches a ds app :P...
you know you guys want this stuff :P...

The M3 version has this, but it's a double edged sword. For example...you can play an MP3 and view a picture, but since MP3 takes up so much CPU power already it slows down the decompression of the JPG, and when it's loading or you are scrolling around, the two kind of fight for CPU time, causing the JPG to be slow like I was saying, and the MP3 to sound crackly.

Some sync differences may be due to NTSC drop frame (59.94 Hz vs. 60 Hz), the GB/GBC/GBA/DS's lower frame rate (59.73 Hz vs. 60 Hz), and audio rate confusion (32000 Hz vs. 32640 Hz vs. 32768 Hz). From what I've read about DPG, its audio/video interleaving is not very robust.
