I *think* it recognizes some newer firmwares (eg: DSlite and "magenta").
But I'm not too sure. Why isn't there a changelog for it on the site?

I just upgraded without reservation. My trust in loopy is boundless :)

It probably adds support for the 4 levels of brightness on the DS Lite. I don't see this update being for ..much of anything other than that. Not that I have a lite to test it on, but well, yeah. It's probably just for DS Lite compatibility.

What else could he possibly have added? Would be cool if it was possible to add brightness to an ordinary DS, though. ^^

Sorry guys, I just flashed my Lite with this new version, and the backlight still isn't adjustable. I actually came here to see if there was any discussion about this, but it looks like I'm the only Lite owner who has tried it so far ... ?

It says that the screen backlit will fade in on startup, does it actually do that on your DS? It doesn't on mine.
#76421 - hmpedersen - Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:59 pm
And still no flashme.ds.gba file :(
I don't know how to make those, but the good news is I finally got my ds to load homebrew.. file.ds.gba renamed to file.gba..
No .nds files will work :(
Can anyone point me to a flashme.ds.gba?

Depending on the software you use to write to your flash cart, renaming flashme.nds as flashme.gba may work.
It it doesn't, then download http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/ndsloader.bin
Then run this:
copy /b ndsloader.bin + flashme.nds flashme.ds.gba

Yeah, thanks.. I figured it out by trying to rename..
Now if only ez client didn't patch .sav files when writing them :( (disabling patcher does nuffin)

FlashMe v6 fades in when booting a GBA game or booting a DS Game Card, but not when booting a DSBooter from the GBA slot.

This guy ran the new FlashME on his DS Lite. :O Everything works except the back light settings on the DS Lite.

Do we need to short Sl1 to change from flashme v5 to flashmev7 ?
#76466 - MaHe - Tue Mar 21, 2006 11:40 pm
In 95% of cases - no.

Does anybody know what the changes are between version 5 and v6? (just so I get a complete picture of EVERYTHING new between 5 and 7!)
MaHe: So, does the amount of flash protected by the SL 1 contact vary between machines?
BTW, It took me ages to track down this thread. They do great work with the new firmware, but telling us WHY we should want it would be helpful!
#84172 - HyperHacker - Sat May 20, 2006 9:39 pm
Most systems have only the first quarter of the firmware protected. It's enough to contain an emergency bootstrap (as FlashMe has), but Nintendo didn't put one in (too easy to run unsigned code that way), so if those systems get bricked and don't have FlashMe, they're toast unless you can solder. Some newer ones have all but the last 8K (or is it 8 pages?) protected, which hold the configuration, so they're bricker-proof so long as you don't short SL1 (a bricker can only delete your settings, the system will still work). This unfortunately means you have to short SL1 for every update, but it's a rather small price to pay IMO. (Unless you have DSLite. Dunno how much is protected on them, though.)

On Flashme 5 MultiNDS didn't work on flash carts. It didn't boot or you couldn't select anything to start. That has been fixed in Flashme 6.

Is that just the menu tool for storing multiple NDS games on one cart?
Did they fix the problem with Sonic Rush crashing?

I'm pretty sure they mean the homebrew loader that was once a part of the Darkstar homebrew application.

Yeah, I mean MultiNDS and this Darkstar thing. These didn't work correctly. Sometimes you got only two white screens, and when you got to the menu touchscreen usually didn't work and you couldn't start anything (if you did --> white screens)
