DS Misc > About Mario Kart's Online Play

I heard a while ago that Mario Kart downloads code from Nintendo's servers when you connect, but it uses SSL. My question is does anyone know if this is signed, or just relies on the SSL encryption? I ask because if that's the case, custom servers might be worth looking into...

SSL relies on a certificate, which is signed by a certificate authority. It might be Nin?endo's private CA, or it might be Verislime, or it might be Thawteless, but it's still not something where we know the private key.

Bleh, I thought as much. Are private servers even possible then?

In at least the degenerate case (using airplanes to move the players instead of using a network to move packets), yes.
