Hi. I wanted to know if any MoonShell version supports Supercard MiniSD?

#82715 - Xtreme - Mon May 08, 2006 9:59 pm

One idea came to my mind after listening several tracks of music before sleep: Shut down DS timer for audio playback (custom selected value in minutes). Very useful if you want to listen music before sleep.

Btw, MoonShell is great. I just love it. Thank you Moonlight! :-)

SCminiSD is functionally identical to SCSD.

hmm... I was wondering if it would be possible to make an option for mono sound instead of stereo. I do like the stereo quality, but i prefer smaller file sizes rather than better audio quality.

#82928 - HyperHacker - Thu May 11, 2006 5:41 am

Hey, I found a very small bug: MusicNext=NormalLoop doesn't work if you're browsing a different directory when the song ends. It just stops.

Also, why not have a MusicNext=LoopPowerOff option, where after the last song it shuts off?

#82931 - tepples - Thu May 11, 2006 5:50 am

Today I was thinking that MusicNext should have been separated into two separate settings: Single/Normal/Shuffle and Stop/Loop/PowerOff.

Unless I'm missing something, just encode your file in mono. All the audo plugins I've looked at use a full decoder implementation, and should do the correct thing with a mono input file, auto detecting as needed.

(Also, if you want minimal file sizes, I'd recommend using Ogg Vorbis. Gets the best compression for audio quality of all the stock audio formats (except midi - but that's a special case).

#83029 - tepples - Fri May 12, 2006 5:10 am

Tracked formats such as .s3m are a middle ground between .mid and .ogg, as you get the smaller size (if the composer is wise with sample use) and you still hear it exactly as the composer intended.

[ Lodeamari Bombacy | 10.2.2. | Onderheynah | loop #7 | NuSuven theme ]

Anyway, I use Ogg Vorbis, 32640 Hz, quality=2, mono or stereo depending on source material.

Maybe it's just me, but is there some special knack to getting homebrew to work on Moonshell and a SCSD? I've been having trouble getting some to work where they'll freeze before loading (like the DSWiFi test app). The strange thing is that they load fine from SC menu. My GBAMP still works fine, it's just the SCSD. I'll have to try some more but has anyone else had a problem like this?

v1.2 video playback test results

My MoonShell setup:
Default MoonShell global.ini with edited only:
Dithering=3
AdaptiveDelayControl=0

Source video clip:
Video: DivX 672x288 pixels (in DS 256x96), 25fps, lenght 96min (1h 36min)
Audio: MP3 108kbps
Muxed size: 700MB

Converted with DPG encoder, using:
Audio: Default settings
Video: 256x* pixels, auto detect ratio, br 256kbps, 24fps
Encoding Speed = 18fps (with Pentium Celeron 2.6GHz, 512MB RAM)
Elapsed time: 2h 6min
Muxed size: 265MB (MP2 audio 88.3MB - MPEG video 176MB)

Test results: 256x96 (24fps):
AdaptiveDelayControl=0 or 1 (same result)
Audio goes out of sync (~1sec) after 10-20 minutes. Video playback is very good.
Good thing is that dithering is not very visible.

Audio out of sync by 1 second after 600 to 1200 seconds means that the playback rate is off by a factor of 0.1%. This could have something to do with the fact that a film transferred to NTSC video runs 0.1% slower than the nominal frame rate (that is, at exactly 24000/1001 fps).

he has released +4
but the link is bad...
(first time he has made a bad link to my account...)

hmmm,
well it (according to google translate)
Code:

MoonShell Ver1.21+4

Temporarily just 8MByte. It is the seeking [mu] other M3 test.

moonshell121p4.zip

Version 1.21+4

8MBytePSRAM of M3 built-in was added to the external memory driver. (As for operation verification old M3SD edition)
It tried to use DMA in the memory transfer of M3 and SC of the external memory driver.

Hmmm...interesting. Using the RAM of the M3 for buffering the video maybe? That probably wouldn't be a bad thing.

*edit*
Ah, from the sounds of it, to help with the viewing obscenely large images (and to help with the smoothness of scrolling of pictures) is what he'd like to do with it...that's not a bad thing either. :)

If you're looking at an image in MoonShell 1.2x, you can press R to view the next one in the folder.

(quoting is fun :P)

that function is very bad...
for one it skips to random places
and it also will repeat an image after going through like 5...

not to mention it starts off at 100% making the images only show a corner for high res...

sorry only the best for a a*hole like me, j/k :P

moonshell v1.21+5 is out...
and it includes Thumb nails!!
this is so cool :)
(sadly you have to make the thumb nails on the computer...)

but now when your scroll through your files if a thumb nail exists it will fill the bottom screen with that image :)
and not zoomed in so you can see the full image (good for high res images :) )

this was a good idea and great advantage of dual screens :)

I may be a bit thick, but how do you use these 1.21+5.zip files???

#83848 - RVK - Thu May 18, 2006 11:29 pm

unzip and then run create thumbneail on your image dir
then run setup

#83866 - Madrigal - Fri May 19, 2006 3:24 am

I seem to be having a problem where after I view thumbnails, my desktop wallpaper is not restored. It's just all black for my wallpaper afterward. Anyone else having this problem? Using Suprcard CF and the EXFS file.

Edit: Figured it out. Just have to press B :P

Yeah, this is quite cool. :) I just found it doesn't seem to make thumbnails for GIF files though. Even if it just made a JPG of them that'd be ok. Maybe in another release. Only reason I noticed it is that I had a bunch of this one webcomic in a folder (Underpower) and some of the early ones were GIF images. I don't even use GIF a heck of a lot usually.

ehr.. can you use the latest version of the program?
and according to this image [Images not permitted - Click here to view it] you can listen to a mp3 and watch images at the same time.... Is it really so?

#83933 - The 9th Sage - Fri May 19, 2006 7:43 pm

Version 1.2p7 was released. :)

Quote:

Version 1.21+8

[Thumbnail] the section was added to global.ini.
At the time of picture indication, when with Double display mode designating VerticalPadding as other than 0, being developed intermittently, it corrected the bug which had become heavy.

Config stuff for thumbnails now, and a bugfix with the verticalpadding of images in dual screen image viewing mode. :) Further down in the post he seems to be saying he's gonna try to figure out the M3's memory further...I guess you can only access 8 MB at a time and it has some kind of a 'paging' system? Sounds confusing...must be able to use it all though as the M3's own software does (of course).

If he can figure this out, maybe DSlinux will eventually have support for it.

That new thumb nail system is so cool and easy to use.

I can use the same miniSD card with my digital camera and with DS. MoonShell also shows my 7.1Mpix pictures (3072x2304 pixels)... WOW!!! It seems to use that M3's external memory.

I wondered if someone has already used his DS as a map? Now it's so easy.

It still could have a few cool things:
- Able to choose brightness and darkness of the picture
- Slideshow (with 3-10 sec delay)
- Show images full screen and not 100% (by default and then ZOOM out/in with Y/X)
- Upper screen off while picture is open on touch screen

for brightness i would say thats kind of a hard thing to do (?),
because remeber he could just be rendering directly and making it non-changable :P...

for slideshow,
that would be great to have (he can even make it part of the .ini on how long to wait... or have the up and down arrows decide :) )

for image size,
i think it should be a .ini again where you can decide what to start at :P...

the off screen thing,
i think that you should have a arrow pad thing on the bottom screen telling you where the styles is draging the image,
and you should see the image on the top screen :)
that would be SO cool :D...

DSOrganize does that, and yes, it's quite a nice feature. Also, there's a brightness control register that you could use.

#84032 - Mr. Picklesworth - Sat May 20, 2006 6:30 am

There have been some very nice additions since the last time I downloaded Moonshell... the PC end of things seems to be much more manageable now, too!

I notice one flaw at the moment:
With older versions, I could set the BacklightTimeout for things to -1, which would mean that the backlight never switches off.
For some reason, I can no longer do that :(
Instead, when I open an image, the backlight flips on and off violently. The system shuts down shortly afterwards. (Which is interesting... perhaps some kind of hardware safety feature?)

The image viewer is being a bit fiddly for me.
I like how it goes into a fullscreen mode... however, when I scroll the image, it goes back into normal mode, which makes it useless for big images.
I'm finding it a bit hard to get used to having the file information for images drawn on top of the image I am viewing instead of a seperate window.
Still, the two screen image viewing is something that I've always wanted but been afraid to ask for!
Is it possible to set the image viewer to go to full-screen mode without scrollbars or window title instantly? Or perhaps to press a button to do this?

On the bright side, I am noticing much faster booting speeds, faster opening of text files, and smoother video playback.

Also, it looks like most of my problems can be solved by playing around with Global.ini... and I just remembered that DSOrganize has a syntax editor for ini files, so I can do it entirely through my DS :)
Great job, Moonlight, as always!

Yeah, switching the light on and off too fast will trigger a protection circuit and shut it down. I think it'd have to be a lot faster than you could really see, though. FlashMe fades it in by flashing it really fast, so it'd be even faster than that.

Great job, Moonlight, as always!

I made a whole modified skin.ini using just DSOrganize, quite amusing but hard on the fingers.

[edit] Hm, having some problems with this version. Nearly every image I try to view just freezes the system, often with garbage displayed on the top screen. :-(

1.3 Finalbeta is out.

I'm playing with it now. I'll post any bugs I find, if any.

Edit: In double screen mode, it crashes when zooming an image out.

Garbage is also displayed when the image doesn't take up the full screens.I just noticed that Moonlight said double screen mode is unstable and to "Please think that it is not possible to use it basically." It worked fine before, though.

Oh...oops. I guess I misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking about the time for the backlight turning off (if say you are listening to an MP3 and want to let the light turn off to save power).
