Cool :)
mntorankusu said in the previous thread that Moonshell crashes when zooming out with 2 screen images in the new version, though, so I guess I'm stuck with the old one for now.
The dual screen image viewing is fantastic for reading comics / pdfs turned to images. Some are even readable at 50% zoom!

It still crashes for me when viewing any JPEG, even in single-screen mode. Still, yay. BMPs, GIFs and PNGs all work fine in 2-screen mode, but I can only zoom to 50% or 100% (I guess that's what limited expansion means?).
BTW, the readme does say that 2-screen mode is unstable.

What does install create? Does it edit the registry?

It just copies the required files to your memory card. Beware that it'll overwrite your global.ini settings (not skin.ini though), and your background image if you don't uncheck it.

JPEGs work fine for me in single screen mode. Though every once in a while, a file comes along that crashes it.
I didn't notice before since most of my images are JPEG, but it is only JPEGs that crash double screen mode when I zoom out. PNG works fine.

1.3 final beta 2 is out.
I have updated the readme file to include all the global.ini values.

I'm really loving all the new features he's adding, but I wish he would just FIX THE TEXT BROWSER already. I don't get why he's adding all these new features before fixing what's already there. It's pretty much unusable in the state it's in now. DSOrganize formats it properly, I don't see why Moonshell can't. Adding a bookmark feature to the text browser wouldn't be a bad idea either.
#84523 - HyperHacker - Tue May 23, 2006 3:03 am
YES! It's really not that hard to fix, if I get bored I might just try myself. Maybe he just doesn't realize it's a problem? With Japanese it's probably still readable that way. [Edit: Except that it cuts off wide characters near the edge, just as it does in the file browser. Same bug I'll bet.]
As for translations, I'd do it but I only speak one language, which this post is written in. I'm slowly teaching myself Japanese but that doesn't help much in this case.
And no more 404s! :-)
Ooh, some nice changes here. Clock plugin config in global.ini, change the date order, and some sort of "developer tool" option in the setup app... not sure what that does.
It's still crashing with JPEGs though. :-( I see a few instances of "extmem:unknown cartridge type" and "FAT_fopen error" in the debug log at startup. Maybe when he added support to the JPEG plugin to use M3 memory he broke GBAMP.
Hm, also, selecting //EXFS or //GBFS by accident freezes the system instead of saying media not found.
BTW, what's that "auto start" option for Startup Sound do? It just seems to disable the startup sound.

I asked about it once when he was still posting here, and he said that he couldn't do it because he only knows japanese, and it doesn't make a difference in that language.
#84525 - HyperHacker - Tue May 23, 2006 3:30 am
I guess that's feasible. Japanese characters are generally wider than English characters so maybe that cutoff bug doesn't happen. (Does it use a fixed-width font for Japanese? It shows up as question marks for me even though I selected Unicode in setup.) I thought the source code was available, but I can't seem to find it.
Also I replaced the JPEG plugins with the ones from V1.21+6 and it works, even in double screen mode. It freezes when I zoom out in dual-screen mode though. However one image, which I could swear worked before, shows errors about progressive JPEGs not being supported.
Hey, did anyone notice it shows info for .msp files now when you open them? It treats them as sound files though. O_o Also when I tried to add my own startup.mp3 in place of the existing one it says it can't find it. Maybe because it's 5MB? (I was hoping it'd keep playing while doing other things, heh.)
Anyone know if he's still getting 403d here?

Last time I tried it, Shift-JIS worked for Japanese languange support in MoonShell.

I think Japanese fonts in general are fixed-width. That might be why the character cutoff bug exists in the first place.

I think startup sound files have to fit into RAM. Not sure though.

I was pretty surprised, when i saw yours so called "translation", which is in fact rip-off of my work (and Zubiac's too). You took all config file options descriptions made by me, and then just deleted our names from readme file. "Nice" work, Xtreme!

Probably. I tried a 60K one and it worked fine. It was also long enough for me to discover, unfortunately, that even the startup sound stops playing if you open a text file, image, etc.

Incidently,
The width of the character overflows. The character lacks, and is skipped. Do those bugs exist still?
When the file name or the text file, etc. that can reproduce the bug are posted, I am glad.
I cannot yet access gbadev.
It is possible to read occasionally by making good use of the tunnel of the proxy and the translation service.

So much is changed. Have you even compared that very very old readme and the latest? I keeped names very long, but I felt that there is no need to keep them anymore when the interface and contents has changed so much. It's absolutely not a rip off.
Old habit was:
Quote: |
English ReadMe by zubiac, Finnish ReadMe by Xtreme, Russian ReadMe by Kir |
Now it's one name per language file. Otherwise you will need to edit all the lang files when one new file is added (doh!).
Now it's for example:
readme(spanish).txt

All that that team says when I ask is that they are busy at the moment. Maybe that is a few man company or they are really making something secret. I have requated many times for updated G6 I/O without luck. So I have no idea.

Cool, please do so. I believe there are many Italians who would need that.
Encoding tools are the same. It's Version 1.0.

Plugins! :-p
BTW I was thinking last night. If Moonshell can run the clock plugin at the same time as the text/image/etc plugin, why can't it run any other two at the same time?

I hope I don't sound too n00b with my questions but I was wondering how to get this latest version of MoonShell on my Datel 4gb hd. It came with 1.1 (I believe) and I'm trying really hard to upgrade, but so far I just get an error screen every time I try to run the new version. Here's a photo showing what I get when I run what I *THINK* is the correct file. The EXFS part puzzles me because I specifically didn't select that option during setup.
The readme for moonshell doesnt give instructions for this particular media storage (it's not SD or CF, so I have no idea what option to pick when running setup.exe!)
Also, are there any programs that will convert itunes .m4v video files (like TV episodes) to .dpg format? DPGtools doesn't seem to want to do it.
If it isn't obvious, I'm very new to this GBA/DS modding/homebrew stuff and I could really use some help.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

#84695 - Syr - Wed May 24, 2006 8:26 am
Hi, I was wondering what the level of compatibility/stability is for Moonshell 1.3 on the M3 SD?
I heard over the web on a host of sites saying that moonshell is only partially working... but not very specific as to what that means. I'm debating whether or not to go with CF or SD at the moment, and if mp3 playback is screwing with the SD then I'll definitely just get the CF, regardless of its size. I'm just holding out hope that the SD m3 does support mp3 playback and Bleach _on the_ DS :)

Well I hope Bleach DS refers to playing Bleach episodes in Moonshell. No piracy talk allowed here.
Hm, I can't get dpgenc.exe to work. No matter what settings I use or what file I try it says it can't detect the total play time.

Heh, I watch a lot of anime on the DS (it's the only stuff I can get to encode and still be watchable (also my parents stare at me a lot if i mention anime let alone watch it, I think it's all the large racked babes with tight tops image that anime has attracted)).

BTW I looked a bit further and not only did I find the source code but also this quote:
Moonlight's blog wrote: | I cannot yet access gbadev.
It is possible to read occasionally by making good use of the tunnel of the proxy and the translation service. |
So apparently he's still blocked for some reason, and just reading through proxies. |
:) cool. Are you still going to see if you can fix the text browser? |
Yeah, but not until at least the 29th. Too busy until then.
I wonder if DPGEnc not working is because I deleted Windows Media? But other players still play things fine, and I'm just using simple .avis that even show up in Explorer's previews without WMP being there.

Yes, using those two values causes backlight to stay off. I have reported that to MoonShell. I'm not sure if it's undocumented bevior or a bug. :-)

is it hard to add icons to moonshell, selectable icons for folders and apps.
GUI of sorts more than whats there.
if so, would the icons be movable like on a desktop.
Just wondering

Well, good news. Moonlight is trying to fix the bug where text gets cut off at the edge. I've been working with him, exchanging testcases and screenshots. (The Google translator actually works pretty well if you use good grammar and write formally.) So far I've determined that the bug doesn't seem to occurr if you use the "ank only" memory package, which uses a skinnier font. However, it still doesn't do actual word wrap (lines still wrap halfway through a word, but characters don't go missing from the end). This is a different problem, and apparently he has trouble with it, probably because he doesn't speak English to be able to tell if it's correct.

To whoever wants to work on a patch for MoonShell's text reader, here's how to implement simple word break for Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, and Japanese scripts.
In the scanning loop:
When it sees a newline character ('\r' or '\n'), it draws the line so far.
When it sees a space character (' ' or '\t'), it stores its position in a variable called lastSpace.
When it sees a hiragana followed by a kanji or katakana, it stores the hiragana's position in lastSpace. (This will break Japanese words after their case endings.)
When it has enough characters to fill the line, it draws everything up to lastSpace unless there wasn't a space in this line, in which case it draws all the characters in the line so far.

I think he's just saying that unless some bugs are found he's done with it for now...remember, he said that before but eventually he started working on it again. He's added a lot of new features, he definitely deserves a long break. :) MoonShell seems quite stable anyway at this moment and it has about any feature I can think of.

well, the only big thing missing is file ultilities (Copy, Rename, Create Folder, Delete). Oh, and something that says how much space is left on your compact flash.
DS Organiser does most of that, however, so nothing is really needed.

Is there any place in the recent Mooshell's directories where I can find plugin files, or are they all stored within Setup.exe?

I have been in contact with G6/M3 team. They said they have provided information for Moonligh to support M3 adapters and will provide information to support G6 later (I have no idea what that means, weeks, months?).
Maybe later support for NINJADS also if wilcd gives the information of their adapter.
Good hopes for future releases. :-)

Same here, Madrigal.
Seems a bit strange...
Couldn't Moonlight pull the text viewer out to being a regular plugin so that other people can more easily work on it?
Is it possible to customize the real time clock so that it doesn't display seconds or the date?
I'm running on a skin which happens to waste a lot of room, and the clock plugin doesn't fit in perfectly.
(Vista Desert 2.0... slightly modified).

Wasn't a lot of the stuff in DSOrganize based on MoonShell in the first place? I recall him planning to modify MoonShell once it reached v1.0, so maybe that's what DSOrganize sort of is at its heart (although it is quite its own entity)?

You can replace the touch screen's background and the background behind the file list. Shrinking your PC's desktop background to 256x192 pixels and using that will make it seem more consistent.

I just accidentally pressed 'A' on an NDS file in MoonShell, while using my M3 CF...and MoonShell actually launched it. O_o Successfully. When did any M3 NDS launching support happen? Compatibility seems spotty right now (though it could be that just NDS files with launchers work, haven't tested this theory yet), that's probably why nothing has been said about it.
Anyway, that's rather cool. Seems to load it into M3's RAM then execute it as you would think. HexenDS actually started up, though it died after initial loading, heh. Still, cool. :)

Isn't this referring to the M3 version of MoonShell in the setup (that you can launch with A rather than Start from the M3's menu) or is the wording just weird? I'm talking about launching an NDS FROM MoonShell running on the M3 CF. I thought MoonShell only had support for this on the GBAMP and the Supercard.
Either way, I'm suprised I hadn't seen any mention of it. :P

Hello,
I have a big problem. I try to get a new Verison of Monshell on my 4GH HD with the Max Mediaplayer. But it dont work. There is an older Version preinstalled but when I download the new 1.3 Version and copy the files on my DS it doesn't work.
My steps, how I tried to install Moonshell:
1. Run setup.exe
2. Setup target drive: I:\fixed-HDD [Datel-Max]
3. Everything is checked
4. I pressed the Setup button
5. the program copied all files to my HD
6. run the Boot_me.nds (something like that ;-) )
Now there comes that screen:
----------------
boot Moonshell
Version 1.3 by Moonlight.
May 23 2006 21:20:55 GMT+09:00
ITCM0x2084a84,0x0,0x1360
DTCMox2082938,0x800000,0x214c
Init FileSystem.
FileMaxCount=256
not founf EXFS.
chkNMC/chkM3CF/chkMPCF/chkSCCF/chkM3SD/chKSCSD/pass.
-----------
and that's it. Nothing happens.
What's with the error message:
not founf EXFS.
chkNMC/chkM3CF/chkMPCF/chkSCCF/chkM3SD/chKSCSD/pass.
Anyone who understand that?!

It sounds like you're not using the latest version. Max Media support was only added in 1.3 Beta2. You can get 1.3 Beta3 here: http://mdxonline.dyndns.org/archives/2006/06/moonshell_ver13_13.html
In this version, there should be an option in the Setup, under "ROM Image" to use Max Media. The resulting file should be called "_BOOT_MP_MMCF.nds." You can uncheck the rest of the "ROM image" boxes.

DPG playback still gets a steady, unavoidable decline in frame rate.
I'm converting a video to run at 15 frames / second from 25. It takes about 30 minutes before the unsyncronization is noticeable.
The problem may be DPGenc, since the audio is always unsynchonized even if I skip ahead in the video, but I have tried numerous configurations to no avail.
Has anyone else had trouble with audio desync in big videos and found a better way to change the frame rate without killing it?
(And does anyone else find it irritating how hard it is to keep audio and video in line with these things?)

Lol, text viewer still isn't fixed. If anyone is in contact with Moonlight, point him to DSOrganize. I'm not a programmer and know nothing about progamming, but I assume it would be something as simple as copying th values SDOrganize uses. I know I keep going on and on about the text viewer, but I would actually use it a lot if it worked.
#86779 - tepples - Fri Jun 09, 2006 5:51 am
DSOrganize is proprietary software. Do you expect Moonlight to disassemble it?

This is'nt exactly what i meant - when i use moonshell to watch movie's with the volume on both the DS and moonshell at 100% i still find it hard to hear (I am on a train) is there anything in the global.ini that can be changed so that the volume at 100% is louder than it currently is? I have also noticed while listening to MP3 that at 100% volume the MP3's distort (a lot) this never used to happen the MP3 support seemsed really good before...any suggestions?

I've been away from this for a few months. Has something to do with getting married a few months back.
Anyways, I downloaded the new moonshell and all I see is a Setup.exe file.
Is there some procedure for us windows free people to get & install moonshell nowadays?
#86819 - The_Aylmer - Fri Jun 09, 2006 4:01 pm
Run the EXE - if you are using a CF or SD card be sure to have it connected to your PC. The 1st thing it will ask is what media you are using use the drop down box to selct the drive that is your CF or SD media , click ok and then ok again. Moonshell will then be copied to your media.
#86825 - RVK - Fri Jun 09, 2006 5:27 pm
Sound volume in moonshell goes up to 400%.
The initial volume is adjustable under global.ini
#86836 - tepples - Fri Jun 09, 2006 7:44 pm
Before converting the movie, try using level compression on the audio in VirtualDub. This will make the quiet parts louder, allowing you to keep everything at similar volume levels. For instance, a compressor set at 2:1 will map parts that are -30 dB, -20 dB, and -10 dB to -15 dB, -10 dB, and -5 dB respectively. The same thing works for classical music; I use a 2:1 compressor with a cutoff around -48 dB on my Grieg and Beethoven CDs.
As for popular music such as the YTMND soundtrack, I run amplify, limiter, and soft saturation effects until Replay Gain reports a value of -6 dB.

Not sure if everyone knows this but...
With NDS Lite, the LCD is MUCH brighter if you modify the global.ini and set the LCD brightness to 3 instead of Auto mode.
I got a huge kick out of it when I found this out myself. hehehe.
(I guess it's documented somewhere but haven't found it yet..)
#87026 - falcon!!! - Sun Jun 11, 2006 2:47 pm
I found out that videos played by M3 Extended function (in last firmware e.21) run much better than on moonshell (they are smoother and with they dont lose sync)
#87266 - Durandle - Tue Jun 13, 2006 12:10 am
Note for a possible fix needed (still) in the MoonShell MP3 support. It still can't play MP3s with embedded track art. It plays noise and such instead. I can give any examples needed to fix this, but its a pain going back through all my music stripping out album art. Just a request I guess :)
----
I've just been playing with DSM stuff, it seems to be the same as DPG - I suspect they're using the same method as Batch DPG to get better videos. The smoothness is a trick - I think they turned off the dithering, so it skips to keep in sync - you dont notice as much unless there is a *lot* of action. The example videos I've seen use very little motion.

Nice! The setup program has really been improved, and the global.ini has more detailed and easy to read explainations. In the app itself, I don't see much changed. Random startup sound still just makes no sound at all; are the files supposed to be in \SHELL? Anyway I do notice one cool feature: When the backlight goes off, it dims the power LED! If you look close you can see it's flickering on and off really fast, just like how FlashMe dims the backlight. I was gonna try that and see if it worked, I guess this answers my question. :-p
Oi, I just closed a window with the X in the corner, and it closed the date/time window too! Looks like it responds to being clicked in the corner, and closes, even though it doesn't have a close button.
JPEG viewing is much improved, but with a few problems. It's far faster and the images almost look a bit clearer than usual. (Looks great at 50% especially.) When viewing large images it doesn't mess up when seeking through the file. Unfortunately it has to seek through them a lot more. A 640x779 image requires quite a bit of seeking, when it wouldn't have on older versions. (Only HUGE images needed to before.) Seems like if you just move around the image to get it all on the screen, it loads all into memory and won't have to seek anymore (except with HUGE images), so I wonder why it doesn't just load them into memory right from the start?
The only other problem I see is the lack of support for progressive JPEGs. That isn't a signifigant problem, but when it shows the error message, you can't use L or R; you have to find the next image manually in the file list. (Plus, these images showed up fine in older versions. O_o)
BTW, other formats such as GIF and PNG also load faster and look better.
[edit] Hah, the power LED doesn't just dim, it fades in and out. Awesome.

When will the thumbnail preview appear? I'm using the default settings.. Yup..

You have to run a program on your computer (CreateThumbnail.exe) to make a thumbnail file for the folder.

run createthumbnail.
choose any single picture in a folder.
it will create thumbnails for all pictures.
copy folder to SC.
There is no way yet to reboot from moonshell without poweroff.

Okie.. Found the createthumbnail.exe already..
There's a createthumbnail.ini.. Do I need to add it into supercard?

And hmm.. can .dpg files have thumbnails?

why is it that you can fast foward quickly on a dpg movie, but it takes forever to rewind?
Can this be corrected?

It's because it can really only seek forward. Meaning, if you want to seek backwards, it has to go from the beginning of the file to the point you seek to.
It probably has something to do with the way the FAT file system is read from, but I don't really know.

It happens even with some official games on the GBA, so I'd guess it's normal.

Okay, I just now started using version 1.31 and I have a question. Does anyone else get audio dropouts or hiccups every few seconds while playing MP3 files? Granted, I haven't spent much time with it yet and only tested the Supercard version with my SCSD, but I'm getting very noticable dropouts now where it used to be perfectly clear before. I know it's not a problem with my audio files as they play fine in DSOrganize. Has anyone else experienced this too? Thanks.

It sounds alright to me. Maybe your SD card is too slow.
Also, red/green alternating power LED is normal when your battery gets just weak enough to go red, especially when sounds are playing. It will switch between colours as the power consumption goes up and down, until it gets weak enough that it just stays red.

Same 66X card I've been using for a long while and it didn't exhibit this behavior playing the same songs in DSOrganize. I highly doubt it's too slow.
The last few versions I've tried with my SC seem rather flakey for some reason. It was either v1.21 or v1.31b that I used last and it seemed to have some issues running homebrew apps. Then again, I was using a GBAMPv2 for a long time before I got the SCSD, so maybe I'm still having teething troubles with the SCSD. It just seems like older versions like v1.0 and v1.1 were more stable for some reason. Maybe I should just drop back to one of those.

Minor thing that moonshell should have for the next version;
*.kar file support.
These are exactly the same as midis, only with lyrics.
Renameing them to mid, and they work the same.
Having to rename them every time is a bit of a pain, so moonshell should just interpret the extension the same.

Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the SC version using the SC's onboard memory? I've heard before that it's slow. Could this be a factor? I wouldn't think it would be slower than reading off the SD card directly, though. Maybe that's not it, then. Strange.

Did you start the moonshell nds file with button "A" or with "START"?

So what does everyone think of ReinMoon? Looks like a cross between Rein and MoonShell...think Rein with an awesome GUI. 'based on Rein by SaTa, customized by Moonlight' as the console says.
It has a lot of potential coolness. :)

I too noticed that Moonshell 1.31 final gives glitchy playback on Supercard MiniSD, whereas 1.31beta3 seems fine.
What's a good video bitrate to set in BatchDPG to make the colours of encoded videos less noticeably blocky and seperated? I mucked around last night at around 280 and even though it was better than the default moonshell encoding tools, I still could see quite a bit of blocky/pixelated areas wherever scenes of high action and panning occurred (say the piano intro to Family Guy and quick panning/zooming in a WC06 soccer match).
Will experiment a bit more later tonight.

Movies, you don't, but for two screen picture viewing, go to Shell/global.ini on your memory card (that you have MoonShell installed to) and look for a section called '[ImagePlugin]'. Then change ImageMode to = 1.

Actually I'm noticing distortion and clipping in MP3s on my Lexar 128MB CF. It clips as if the volume were turned way up, even at only 100%, when the same files sounded fine at 150% before.

That's odd. Firstly because I thought the Supercard SD could only accomodate up to 1GB SD cards. Secondly because the generic SanDisk SD cards are some of the slower kind. So it doesn't seem like it's a speed issue of the cards, either. Although RiDATA is a lesser-known brand. Then again, it does it on my PNY SD card too.
So that leads me back to looking at the Supercard. Do you know what firmware you are using? I'm pretty sure I'm using the latest Kernel V1.62 on mine with FlashMe V7. I wonder if that might make a difference?

I don't have a chance to test it until I'm home tomorrow, but I would assume this fixes the issues with MP3's skipping.

Yeah. I tried it out the other day, and the noise when playing DPGs on my Supercard is gone.
But the power light flashing is also back to normal! I really liked the way it faded in and out in the previous version. That way I could never look at my DS and think it was off.

How do you get your customized .msp clock to work?
I used the program "ClockPlugin_CustomKit" to create my own clock. I next placed it along with the .ini and .bin files in the "plugin" folder in the "shell folder"
How is the clock supposed to work? I thought that if you left moonshell idle long enough, it would show the clock as a sort of screensaver.
However, I am seeing nothing. Could anyone help?

Modify this entry in the global.ini:
Code: |
[BacklightTimeout]
WhenStandby=5
WhenPicture=0
WhenText=0
WhenSound=5 |
The clock comes on when the backlights would normally be disabled from the timeout. When one of these values is set to zero, the clock will never come up in that situation, and the backlights will never go off.

Well, it seems that the Supercard SD can accept 2GB cards after all. :)
I have a genuine Supercard SD with Supercard kernel v1.62 and FlashMe v7 on a launch ordinary DS.
Perhaps somebody could write an app that benchmarks Supercard and flash media combination speeds at reading and writing?

Download Moonshell src.
Run CreatProFont.exe.
You may need use hexeditor to change CreatProFont.exe some bit, or you can change the source code and rebuild it.
Who can tell me how to contect the Moonshell author?
I email to autolinkpost@moonlight.servehttp.com ,but he does not reply my mail.

Just adding my 2pence, for the first time today I booted moonshell on my magicflash 256M and wow, I love it already.
Though with limited flashcard space I can already place quite a few mp3's on here, and in the process of testing what my card will alow, still being a homebrew ds noob and all (only owned the ds for about 3 months now)
I look foward to watching shows on moonshell if they fit :D

Hey, I found two minor bugs.
1: Opening a zero-byte text file freezes Moonshell.
2: Files more than 2GB display a negative size. The file size should be unsigned.

hello,
i would like to know why since the moonshell 1.31 we don't have the g6 support for moonshell ?
before the 1.31 (in the 1.3 for example) we had a "G6_Setup.cmd" to build a g3 compatible moonshell
but now we have to waiting for an "official" release of the g6 team on their wensite and we can't benefit of the last 1.33 for example.
so i don't undertsand that if someone can explain me.
thank you

That's nifty. Looks like DSOrganize, but better.
I was listening to music and watching the clock with all the particles bouncing around and the VU clock the other day and got to thinking about something. Does anyone know if the DS has enough horsepower to display a visualization of the waveform like an oscilliscope or spectrum analyzer while playing back? I know, it would probably be pushing it, but it seems like that would be the ideal thing to display on the other screen while music plays. Like the visualizations for Winamp and Windows Media Player. I know it couldn't be as advanced, but do you suppose it's possible?

DSOrganize displays an o-scope. An analyzer might be tough if you can't "cheat" and grab values straight from the transforms inside the MP2/MP3 codec.

Sorry, but that G6_Setup.cmd is just a script that replaces the original _BOOT_MP.nds to the file that G6 dev team built. They have promised to pass the source code to Moonlight, but they seem to be too busy to do it. I'm not sure if it's because they don't feel it being important enough as they don't get any money directly of giving the source.. maybe only happy customers.
After Moonlight gets the source, G6 support will be integrated in to MoonShell and G6 will have wider homebrew support (as for now it doesn't have any).

Is it possible in a future version to swap the screens? I know you can have the file browser on the bottom but then it covers the background image and the other windows cover it, leaving the top screen nearly unused. It'd be nice to just press Select to switch screens, and have the 'desktop' on the top and file browser on the bottom.
Also, I noticed you can close the file browser and date/time bar, even when no close button appears. Is that supposed to happen?

Ideas, ideas, ideas...
MoonShell DPG playback:
- On-Screen [Elapsed time/Time left]
- Seek by entered time (easier to continue)
- Save pause-time-bookmark to memory (maybe SRAM could be used)
- Different seek (skip to time) options
- Possibility to lock window positions
- Write to disc/flash support

That could be available example for plug-ins, etc (I'm sure quite a lot plug-in's could be make that would use it).
Write support could be used for saving video pause stage (I'm not sure what it's called). Editing global.ini. Moving, renaming, deleting files/folders.

Basically everything you can do in DSOrganize's browser. I would definately vote for being able to edit the global.ini file or have a configuration menu that modifies the values for you based on checkboxes and text boxes. Either way would work.

Found some more bugs.
-The thumbnail/preview of an image covers windows, but you can still touch them.
-You can close the date/time and file browser windows, even when they have no close button.
-The thumbnail creator doesn't support GIFs.
-Progressive JPEGs and 16-bit BMPs can't be displayed, but they can have thumbnails.

Dvm was the video format before DPG was released - it had a bad compression rate and so is no longer used.

MoonLight released a new version of dpgenc. He updated the GUI to support batch encoding and I really like the way he added the drag and drop support. It can now use DirectShow to encode the video (which BatchDPG does too, with the help of AviSynth), and this setting is selected by default. I was hoping so see more improvements, but I'm just glad it's still being updated at all. I kind of dislike the way all encodes are placed on the desktop, though.

With MoonShell, you use dpgenc or BatchDPG to convert anything that Windows Media Player can play into a .dpg file.
