Hi, I have a question..
Do you guys think that it's possible to make a Voipbuster/InternetCalls cli?nt for the DS?
www.voipbuster.com www.internetcalls.com
for those who dont know these programs:
you can make phone calls from your PC to a real phone.. for FREE (land lines and in some countries even to mobile phones)
Free Calls (Landline) VoipBuster:
Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela.
Free Calls (Landline) InternetCalls:
Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Poland, Puerto Rico, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela.
(I prefer InternetCalls b/c it got more countries that are free, like: Germany, Russia, Turkey, UK, US)
It will be awsome to make a cli?nt for the DS so you can call someone from the DS :)
anyone??? :)

Awesome if DS got this, but i doubt it.
Is anyone making a DS chat with the microphone? like metroid hunters in the lobby?

true, we can't make anything without a protocol release =/
#85675 - HyperHacker - Thu Jun 01, 2006 6:54 pm
I'd be quite surprised to not find a load of spyware in those. Which if nothing else means you're not likely to get the protocol from them by asking.

the layout is extremely identical.. but why does "Internet Calls" have more free destinations then?.. if they're from the same company?

#85697 - D-loader - Thu Jun 01, 2006 9:54 pm
yeah yeah, but I mean all these diffrent versions.. all having the same roots, but totally diffrent numbers of "free" destinations.. is this more of a consept that companies can buy or something?
#85703 - Liquidnumb - Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:37 pm
There could be any number of legal reasons for having different software for different international calling destinations. Each of these different countries have their own laws, codes, and penalties. I think it's not only possible, but even likely that they needed to form separate entities to cover a wider area without running into legal troubles over two countries which don't agree on how a company or it's software should operate.
On the other hand, I know virtually nothing about telecommunication laws or practices beyond my own home.

Actually you can use SIP, it's a known and open protocol and is accepted by all this services. See http://www.voipbuster.com/en/sip.html for the voipbuster sip server, or http://www.sipdiscount.com/en/index.html from the same company.

exactly
you "only" need to make a SIP client for the DS, and let it enter with the following settings:
Code: |
Settings
Username: Your VoipBuster username
Password: Your VoipBuster password
SIP/Proxy registrar: sip.voipbuster.com
Domain/Realm (optional): voipbuster.com
STUN server: stun.voipbuster.com |

I would really like to see someone make a VoIP program for DS... I only wish I had the coding knowledge to do it myself.

All I know is Visual Basic (no comment) and an iota of C/C++. I'm in the process of learning to code for the DS because I'd really love to start creating some DS homebrew.

I THINK WE HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS ALL!!!!
I contacted Wengo ( www.wengo.com )
(Wengo is a program which you can call just like skype and voipbuster.. you get free ?2,- when you register.. (and when your credit expires.. just make a new account xD ))
and they will work on this :D
I suggested to make it free to download..
I will w8 for their upcoming answers.. :)
Code: |
MAIL TO WENGO:
As many off you know the handheld console: Nintendo DS
I suggest to port Wengo to the DS..
There are many programs ported allready to it..
(like the MSN Messenger for the DS, called "beup")
This would be awsome for all DS users with a flashcard.
(you can put files on your flashcard so you can play homebrew made programs/files on it )
many guys really want this :(
I hope you will make this dream come true! |
Code: |
Mail back:
Thanks for your suggestion.
I transfer to the technical service. |
(I cut it a bit)
who knows.. maybe we STILL get a real voip for the DS! :)

French ISP "Free" (Iliad) is offering SIP functionality to any of its numerous clients. For 30?/month we have Up to 28Mbps, 100+ TV channels, unlimited calls in France on "normal" phone and also unlimited calls to 30+ countries, including mobile phones in some case (US, Canada,...etc), we are also lent a "Freebox" modem, HD ready, 40Go hard-drive, MIMO like protocols, Wifi...etc
So, to summarize, "Free" rules. http://adsl.free.fr
All of this to come up to say: I really want a SIP client for my DS because I could use it freely anywhere in the world !!! :)

Finding hosting isn't an issue for me, I was merely explaining why my old site went down. When the hosting was cancelled, I also lost the db's the site and forum used, and I didn't feel like erecting another site.

Well switching hosts and having to remake the site 3 times was a little tiring, not to mention an un-needed hassle, considering the site offered nothing to my project in terms of functionality.

It died quite some time ago, actually. It was 'functional' to an extent, but wasn't practical in the mess I created. In the end I did try to scrape something out of it (HDSF/HDSI/HDSC), shortly after that was announced, it died due to frustration and time focused on a different project.
It was kind of over 'hyped'(?), that added some drawback to the whole project, I didn't want, nor was expecting any of it. It was a personal project of mine, and the spam and disrespect I got from some was uncalled for.
So yeah, whatever! Think of me what you will. I'm done. :)
