DS Misc > DS startup sound?

#85965 - Dan2552 - Sat Jun 03, 2006 4:44 pm

Hi I flashed my DS an I already miss the DS ringing startup sound, is it available on MP3 anywhere, so I can set my moonshell to have it?

#85972 - compacho - Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:12 pm

Well there is a Stealth version of flashme that retains the boot up sound.

#85976 - Dan2552 - Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:29 pm

but i bet that has the annoying warning thing :p

OnoZ, W4R3z =O!!1!

Hah, and I thought it was a gift to be rid of it, oh well

De facto policy here and official policy on PIRACY-DOT-COM is that anything contained in the FlashMe installer files is fair use. As far as I can tell, this would include the ding from the stealth version of FlashMe.

EDIT for correctness and detail

Hehe, I was being sarcastic

#86111 - HtheB - Sun Jun 04, 2006 2:56 pm

how about CHANGING the startup sound? :)

#86115 - tepples - Sun Jun 04, 2006 3:12 pm

To change the MoonShell startup sound, replace "/SHELL/startup.mp3". Right now my MoonShell is using the startup sound from the Super Game Boy accessory.

Heh, nice. I was using the Gamecube startup sound, but I found if the sound is still playing when you change directories, the buttons stop responding until it's done. :-(

#86237 - swimgod - Mon Jun 05, 2006 9:05 pm

and then happened to make the way they flashed it hidden :D...

(basicly if you bought an extended warenty and you wanna make good use of it :P)

of course,
if you change the startup sound it stealth...

no :P but you can give another name: FlashMe Sound or something xD

#86303 - Nushio - Tue Jun 06, 2006 5:03 am

How about getting the jingle without stealth, so that when it boots, it'll make the sound without displaying the health screen [or waiting for you to touch screen to continue]

I'd love to be able to hear the jingle again [I downloaded the mp3 to hear it several times], and I'd really like to change the jingle if possible.

#86359 - Dan2552 - Tue Jun 06, 2006 4:55 pm

is it me or does flashme actually take the same amount of time as the jingle before the screens turn on and the menu comes up? Power on seems delayed.

Well it's quicker for me..

Hey but wouldn't FlashMe be technically illegal since it is the original firmware? Or is it legal?

If SimonB thought FlashMe were illegal, he'd have deleted the FlashMe thread a long time ago.

But why wouldn't it be? It's copyrighted by Nintendo!

It's OK to privately used modified copyrighted stuff, but not distribute it right?

You're not distributing it, so you don't have to worry :p I think anyways

#86396 - HtheB - Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:21 pm

who cares man! cmon!

#86397 - MaHe - Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:34 pm

FlashME is illegal, though admit it - 90% of the forum is probably using it.

BTW, I use the stealth version too. I'm simply used to the Health Warning screen :)

no download play :(

#86480 - tepples - Wed Jun 07, 2006 1:59 pm

You may have to make the choice:
  1. DS Download Play from official games;
  2. ability to run homebrew; or
  3. go directly to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

You forgot:
4. Buy PassMe Warehouse for $200, gain $1000 revenue from PassMe users

What if we had an HB FW that looked like the regular DS FW but wasn't, like an FWNitro Stealth?

We'd have to use Nintendo's graphics to do it.

Has Nintendo even mentioned FlashMe at all? I don't think there's much risk in using it. If it's a big problem, develop a version based on each official firmware and make the installer a patcher.

Yeah, an patch for FlashMe would own.

With FWNitro would I be able to backup my old firmware? I don't care about Download Play, never used it.

Use DSLinux or DF's firmware dumper to save your FW into a .bin file. Ask somebody to make an YourVersion_FW to FlashME_FW IPS and send it to you. Patch the .bin file and compile it with FW-Nitro's flasher to install it back to your DS :)

Though, that's just too much work, isn't it :D

What command do I use in DSLinux? I just want to keep FW 1 around so I can go back just in case.

As I understand it, IPS works best when only a few bytes are replaced in the file, but FlashMe is recompressed so that almost all bytes are replaced. The firmware patcher will have to be more special-purpose than IPS.

Quote:
DSlinux can now backup your firmware to compact flash.
In the GBAMP, Supercard CF and M3 CF builds you can now do this:

cat /dev/firmware > /home/firmware.bin
poweroff

to save a copy of the DS firmware on your compact flash card.

Hey do you think the noise at the start of this vid could be the Wii startup noise? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoKQ6BT609w&search=Wii

Not necessarily, no more than the whispered "GameCube" in commercials for GCN games matches the GCN startup sound.

The only console where the startup sound matches the sound used in commercials is PS2 (downward fourths arpeggio that plays once an official disc is recognized). Commercials for PS1 games had some sort of chuck-chuck-chuck-chuck while the logo was built, behind someone robotic voice with an accent saying "purei-suteeshon".

lol I still think the PS1 has the best boot screen. It looks so professional!
I think the wii startup of the video shown at e3 is good. It will be in sync with the ds's boot screen.

The Best Buy store near me has a DS demo kiosk that connects to a DS Download Station instead of using a DS Game Card. There may also be a DS demo kiosk in a video game store near you.

I don't even have a PassMe, never had one, don't know any1 who has one (well, I do think the store owner has one :P), and I didn't have to unscrew my DS and remove the sticker and such. I wanted to buy a Passme, but it was back that time when PassMe2 came up and I feared I would have to buy an expensive card with SRAM.
