DS Misc > DS Minigame Collection

#87180 - parrot_ - Mon Jun 12, 2006 4:05 pm

I mentioned this in the multigam post, so I thought I create an official thread for it.

The DS Minigame Collection is goning to be a collection of minigames like a homebrew WarioWare. I'd like to see games downloaded over WiFi and booted, like a catalouge for a menu.

Rules:
1. Nothing rude or obscene
2. Have fun and make the games fun too :D

I have tons of minigame ideas.

Are they going to be packaged as a single "game" and have a plugin-like protocal for loading, or will it be all download, and require an internet connection?

#87351 - Lynx - Tue Jun 13, 2006 3:11 pm

Yeah.. the idea is a good one, but you need to create a framework for other developers to work from.

So that anyone can create a mini-game, and "port" it into your framework easily so that it just works.

Being that I am such a GBA MP fan, I'd like to see it in a manner that the main application is static and mini-games can be added/deleted easily from a directory so that only has the mini-games on it that I like.. This way, once the mini-game "engine" is created, it doesn't change. People can concentrate on creating mini-games for it, not the "engine" itself.

That is sorta my idea, 'cept with WiFi downloads to the GBAMP. I don't think we will have a framework, rather the NDS is downloaded ino a specific dir and started. And it will list all the minigames you have onboard.

EDIT: After some disscussion with Lynx, I think we should have a framework

That is a good idea for WiFi downloads, but not everyone would want to use WiFi downloads for all the games. See the Multigam thread for making modules for Multigam that doesn't require WiFi.

Still, when this is finish I might look at it and see what is available. What do you have planned for the DS Minigame Collection?

A HB WarioWare sorta thing, Games would be downloadable off PCs I'd suppose.

I would propose the name WaluigiWare, as kind of a renegade homebrew name, but there might be copyright issues using a Nitnendo character's name...

Waluigi's logo is a J tetromino from Tetris (although colored like the L tetromino), so how about "J Block Guy Ware"? I don't know.

Oiraw would be a home-brewn combination that resembles both Wario and Waluigi. His hat would have an um... backwards... no, upside... no. Aha! a sideways W. Heck, just make it an O...

How about 'noWare' as in.. don't use the word Ware at all.. :P

Maybe even be original, and just create a name. Like 'Stump'. Doesn't have anything to do with a game.. it's just a name.

An upside-down W? ;-)

"M&M&M"? I can think of one candy company and one hip-hop recording artist's record label that might object.

I'm for "NoWare".

Not to mention a certain meat shop and an adhesive company.
