DS Misc > Max media Launcher; What can I do with it? [Renamed]

#88038 - clone dad - Sat Jun 17, 2006 4:02 am

I have the CF version of the GBAMP, and i like it. so, i decided to buy the Max media Launcher(NOT the max media player)

my question is, what can I do if i get the MML? is the sound and video quality better because i'm running in DS mode? is there any cool software out there for trhe DS?

*whew*

thanks.

Look around in the same forum section that you just posted, and your question will be answered.

To sum it up:
Good god man, have you had your head in the sand all this time?
DS Homebrew is AMAZING!
Go out and try it :D

As far as I know, MML works well for everything, and is probably the new best solution (as well as that other nopass) since it works with any DS.

Yes, MoonShell DPG (DS mode) looks and sounds much better than GBA Movie Player GBM/GBS (GBA mode) at the same bitrate.

Well, no unless you install FlashMe. But you won't need to if you have the MML.

Unless you want protection from NDS files which could brick your DS

you make a really great point ;)

NDS files can brick my DS? that's not good to know O_O

so, if i flash it, does it avoid these files by itself? how do i flash it? )i'm very new...be patient with me :-P)

#88373 - swimgod - Mon Jun 19, 2006 3:21 am

you also have to understand,
that ONLY a select few ds files brick your ds...
and FLASHME if you have a nintendo ds LITE you have a chance of bricking it by just flashing :|

edit:also if you run these files that would brick your ds when you flash your ds it helps in recovering the files it does not prevent them from running...

On the PC, dslazy scans for known DS bricker trojans. On the DS, MoonShell scans for known DS bricker trojans.

Moonshell's scanning won't protect you from unknown ones, though. Flashing is the safest method, since you can recover the firmware. However, that assumes you flash correctly...

But if you flash the first 5 percent correctly, you can recover from there (on select cards).

clamampro checks the .nds file 4 u 2 check if its been used with other files like the bricker programme! also does MML actually have sleep mod issues if so what can be done to stop it!

#88519 - tepples - Mon Jun 19, 2006 10:59 pm

MAX Media Launcher has sleep issues with some of the official WMB demos (such as those captured at E3 or downloaded from a DS Download Station). If you close the DS, they will repeatedly sleep and wake. To work around this, remove the MAX Media Launcher (while the power is still on) and put an authentic DS Game Card into SLOT-1 before you launch the WMB demos.

The KEY WORDS here are KNOWN! They never really hit mainstream anyway. They were just proof of concepts. What you need to worry about are NEW trojans!

But doesn't a Trojan prevent infection? :)

I hope you got some antivir running on your PC. They should identify the known brickers too.

but would it be legal if i ripped the roms myself? like as a backup?

#89478 - Kayouu - Sun Jun 25, 2006 2:41 am

Dunno about rom talk but I'm pretty sure it would be legal as long as YOU ripped them and you own the game and you don't distribute them.

Legal? Perhaps.
On-topic for gbadev.org? No.

will there be a higher framerate with videos played with the Max Media Launcher?

#89555 - Mighty Max - Sun Jun 25, 2006 1:52 pm

Does a car drive faster if you press a start button instead of turning the key?

The MML is just another way to start the code on your gba card. Nothing more nothing less.

#89581 - Mighty Max - Sun Jun 25, 2006 5:10 pm

The MML cant play videos itself.

It all depends what program you use to play your videos. The MML allows to use NDS tools for that (but PassMe/Flashme does too)

If you want to know if the NDS hardware in nds mode can do better performance then in gba mode, then yes.

But video performance/qual is nothing that gets decided by the MML

If you use MML for video then you're probably using MoonShell to play DPG video, and DPG video is better than video using the GBAMP's built-in codec.

actually, i planned on using the MML for videos, music, and homebrew.

Is the sound quality good? does moonshell play mp3 files directly or does it have to be converted to a crappy format?

#89594 - tepples - Sun Jun 25, 2006 6:36 pm

MoonShell can play at least MP3, Ogg Vorbis, MOD, S3M, and XM.

And SPC, NSF and MIDI.

I've had significant problems getting some NSFs to do anything in MoonShell. I ought to go post details in the MoonShell topic. (I'm assuming it's OK to link to NSF files for the same reason it's OK to link to DS WMB demos and FlashMe.)

Many emulation sites refuse to post ROMs but post NSFs, SPCs, USFs etc without hesitation, so I doubt it'd be a problem.
