DS Misc > Brighter Screens on normal DS Discovery

#88438 - shaz - Mon Jun 19, 2006 3:03 pm

I have found out that the Mitsumi 3205A is also discovered on the "yellowed firmware" (forgot what version its called) DS.

I noticed this because I have these DS boards and on the main board it says on all of them C/NTR-CPU-01 but the one with the Mitsumi 3205A says C/NTW-CPU-20.

So if you want to make sure you can do the LCD trick, open your DS and check if it says C/NTR-CPU-20.

Ignore the firmware trick where you have to take the game out while in pictochat, all of these DS's showed it as yellow so you cannot tell.

I can't take pictures because I don't have a good camera...

I am excited that I have the chip but sadly the board is bust. I will bridge the fuses soon and see if it works. If not, then I will solder the chip into a working board.

[Edit] Just noticed that there is another chip on one of these boards. It's a Mitsumi 3205B this time. I wonder what this one does...

What is the LCD trick?

Same LCD features of a DS Lite on a Normal DS.

I've managed to bridge the fuses on the ds boards and now the construction can begin. It is 20:42 in the UK so hopefully I'll get it done today and let u guys know. Thanks

How much faster would a DS's battery die if this were to be done? I mean, the DS Lite's battery mA/h is higher than the regular DS's is it not?

Only if you have it in the two lower settings.

#88533 - shaz - Tue Jun 20, 2006 1:08 am

Dahmit!!
The board is laughing at me. There are so many things wrong with it.
How can I take the chip out of the board into another board. Solder will not work.

Why solder won't work? :)

#88590 - Dan2552 - Tue Jun 20, 2006 3:10 pm

I had yellow..

where abouts do I check for the C/NTR-CPU-20. ?

I installed flashme and I havn't got DSlite style lights, does this mean I defiently can't do it, or is there something extra I've got to do?

I was wondering the same thing. It seems like the quality would be mediocre too, since the DS screens just plain aren't as good as the DS Lite screens, which can be noted by comparing the two when they're on similar backlight modes.

As far as i know.. the only models of fat DS is the new ones that share same hardware parts with lite.. thats why flashme work for it as it is a DS lite

An original DS with FlashMe Lite shuts down after ~2hours at the maximum light-level...

#88606 - spacepirate - Tue Jun 20, 2006 4:24 pm

I'd like to see a comparison of the two side by side. Has anyone taken any pictures of this in action?

I will once I get it working...

But how do I get the chip off... It looks like it was pressed with a machine.

There is a lot of pictures in the spanish forum where it was discovered. I'll post them tomorrow.

#88692 - swimgod - Tue Jun 20, 2006 11:09 pm

i opened my ds for the second time and found out that my ds has
"C/NTR-CPU-01"
>.<;
so im guessing that means it doesn't have light level change support?...

someone should make a ds app to check which chip it is...

because i don't believe the 01 and 20 actually matter :-\

Edit:LOL,
the "C/NTR-CPU-20" thing is on the serial number sticker lol,
bottom right corner

Edit AGAIN!:
well after being bored,
i decided to go on FCC's website...
and i looked at the photos of the ds before it came out...
and guess what.
"C/NTR-CPU-X4"
was on the board
interesting :P

and the SL1 was permently briged ;)

-------------------------------------------------
the ds lite fcc photo's
says "C/USG-CPU-X3"

has anyone else noticed the little text doesn't say NTR (nitro)
so the ds lite doesn't have the name nitro?...

i wonder what its called ?
USG lol

It's easy. If you have a V5 DS you can have the brighter screen. Nothing more.

#88700 - shaz - Wed Jun 21, 2006 1:48 am

Does anyone remembers the ds modding website. It was japanese, i cant find it anywhere, I want to do some of the mods...

EDIT:

Found it. It was http://nds.jpn.org/

Maybe it is true, but not because of the V5 FW. So we can't tell whether all DS with firmware >= 5 have the new power management chip, can we.

Firmware doesnt tell anything. If you have the correct firmware to do this, then there is SOME luck that it will work but there is a possibility that it won't work. It is the CPU/20 you want:

Look at the pic

since I have a V1 firmware DS, could I buy that on eBay and replace the current one in my DS, and have adjustable lighting once I reflash it?

Yes you could, if it is a CPU-20 logic board which is shown in the picture.

Are there any new discoverys on this? This is intresting and I would like to try it on mine. In the bottom right hand corner of my DS it says C/NTR-USA-1. I am going to get an M3 SD MINI soon...

#89823 - Verocity - Mon Jun 26, 2006 8:34 pm

Do I HAVE to take it apart to know if mine can do it?

you don't need to open your ds,
you don't need to run any programs on your ds to find out...

all you need to do is look on the back of your ds and read the little text on the bottom right hand side...

"C/NTR-CPU-20" means YES you can do the light mod
"C/NTR-CPU-01" means NO you can't do the light mod :P

you should have the option to turn into the different light modes or a message that tells you that it is not a Lite.

Start the progi with the "Start" button instead of "a" if you are using a M3!

my "alite" gives me the message that i dont have a DS lite :(...

does that mean a cant use the mod?

#90302 - Prema - Thu Jun 29, 2006 12:28 pm

That means that you you don?t have the chip needed for the Lites light option. You would have to solder the chip from an other board to yours...anyway the normal DS Batteries only last for 2 Hours on the highest light mode and the colors are washed out...

Yeahp Mine says C/NTR-USA-1 and isnt flashme like a passme and it makes your screen brighter but runs your battery low? but you could plug it in to car or plugin. so is alite like flashme but a program.

#90578 - shaz - Fri Jun 30, 2006 11:33 pm

Oh guess what, im getting some more Nintendo DS's. Im going to get 6 Silver ones and 4 Blue ones. I had the CPU 20 board but I can't remember which ds it came from. I only had one pink one and I think it was from there, the other 9 are silvers. Hopefully I'll get 4 CPU 20 boards with the new chip. I'll let you guys know how it is.

Shaz, the only old DS with Lite brightness control I've seen was a pink with recent Nintendogs bundle (well, about 3 months old) and original firmware v5. Obviously also with the NTR-CPU-20 chip as you said - easiest to check is just to flash with latest FlashMe and if it recognizes the DS as DS Lite you will have the new brightness control.

There was a thread about this back then... seemingly Nintendo has updated the old DS circuits alongside the DS Lite using more of the same components for the display.

Also White DS's from china have the chip. Blue ds's should have them too...

The DS in an electric blue case was released long before the Nintendogs pink and blue units.
