HOLY COW! This is a big deal, I just tried out that voice chat app and it works great!!! I was actually surprised when I first turned it on and heard stuff, then said, "wow, this really works", and I heard someone respond back with, "Yes it does!". It was almost kind of creepy.
Now, I just hope we can eventually set up our own "chat" rooms so I could just talk with a few buddies. Amazing!

Nice, haven't tried it but it sounds cool! However, I don't really like the moonshell interface. Having windows on such a smallscreen just isn't right. =/

I agree, the interface needs revision.
Also needs lefty controls for the screen swapping :)
The drawing/VOIP works well, but I was having trouble scrolling that image for some reason...
( And I wish I had a fresh touch screen :( )

I've just tried it but I would prefer to connect to a teamspeak server or something like that if possible. And yes the gui needs some revision.
#103733 - HyperHacker - Sun Sep 24, 2006 8:06 am
Hm, this was fun at first but now it's waaaaaaaay too laggy to be of any use. It also locked up a lot and at one point totally freaked out, swapping screens back and forth and rebooting itself a lot.
And we could have done without the wise guys piping annoying sounds into it for an hour. >_>

I couldn't tell if I was hearing garbled audio or if people were just murmuring to themselves. The scribbling seems more reliable at this point anyway. Damned cool concept though.. people've been begging for VOIP-type apps forever.
#103756 - MiL0 - Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:54 am
exellent application but, like moonshell, someone needs to rip the source and create a totally new GUI for it... something more appropriate for the DS, like the DSOrganize GUI infact...
anyway - good work IP :D

Well, being the only VoIP out there, how about we give real constructive feedback. To bad if you don't like the GUI.. It's from the maker of Moonshell.. if you don't like the Moonshell GUI, your not going to like this one.. and I doubt he is going to totally rewrite the whole thing just for the few people that don't like it.. I personally don't mind the GUI, is functionality that matters to me..
With that said, the only feature that has become "required" is the seperation of rooms and moderators. The ability to create your own room (like IRC) would be nice, so the music players could play their music to themselves all day long and not bother the people that want to actually talk.

I find it alot easier to jut talk without holding the button. Although the "vote-kicking" sounds really nice. I'm tired of all the odd noise and stupid scribblings going on.
For some reason, I also can't log back in. It just keeps dinging.
#103839 - PeterFile - Sun Sep 24, 2006 10:08 pm
Yeah, it kept dinging with me too, but it's fixed now.
#103843 - Nintendo Maniac 64 - Sun Sep 24, 2006 10:54 pm
yeah, that was a server error when joining or something. I was in there before it happened along with 1 other guy so we had a nice peaceful one-on-one conversation. It was pure SILENCE when nobody talked because we both wore headphones so the DS's mic didn't pick up the DS's speakers and have feedback and echo.
#103848 - HyperHacker - Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:30 pm
Yeah, using headphones with that is nice. Also, the GUI would be alright with two small changes:
1) Remove the pointless title bar on the touch screen.
2) Default window positions that aren't so dumb.
Of course, it's open-source so these should be easy enough to fix.

Not really something that needs to be added, but a suggestion for those that use this program:
1) When someone asks you nicely not to write in there box or write on their sutff can you please do what they ask?
2) Also for those that come in, at least say hello instead of just sitting there. ENG and JPN people I'm talking to you.
3) If you have a noise going on the background please turn it down so that it does not interefere with others on the program.
4) Last but not least...don't write in people's tic tac toe/connect 4 box, and make me a frickin biscuit.
Thanks.
#103867 - RVK - Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:27 am
New version out.
Now supports private rooms and lock.
#103869 - Mr. Picklesworth - Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:38 am
Yay!
(Now, back to struggling with getting this screen cover off so that I can enjoy it... any tips? It's not adhesive - just big and attached during a moment of complete buffoonery. I'm banking on the theory that what goes in can come out, but so far with little luck. Theoretically I could cut it with a knife and remove it that way, but I can't stand the risk of cutting into my touch screen).
Edit: OK, you can all relax now!
In desperation I managed to aim an exacto-knife sidewaysish while pulling at the screen "protector" with strong adhesive. Somehow I managed to dig just deep enough and my touch screen came out completely unscathed. (It perhaps looks even better than ever!)

Infantile does great work. I'm surprised no one else created a working voip client earlier, this really deserves more publicity. It really shows why Nintendo thought friend codes were necessary, it doesn't take long for someone to talk about something that you may not want a kid to hear.

Well this is just a voice chat with no clear subject. I imagine there's less sex jokes said during actual games.
Also, people were advertising the first day, but promptly told to STFU.

Because he gave a link to the page rather than linking just to the file (usually preferred so people get their due (page visits) rather than just being leeched off of). He also gave the change log.
As far as the client goes, it seems with every new version it improves, but it's more of a bitch to connect to than ever.

Well, not with this application. With this application you can only chat to other people using the same program. To chat with other computers/voip applications you'd need a program specaily designed to do that.

What a pile this is
Didn't seem to have any chat functionality about it at all! Just a crap notice board thing you can scribble on and up to 1000 odd rooms to choose to go in. :p
How do you actually chat with this damn thing? All I could see was a crappy version of Paint on the DS :p
#130265 - dantheman - Fri Jun 01, 2007 5:46 pm
You... talk into the mic? If anyone else is in the same room as you, they'll be able to hear you, at least partially. Obviously if they're in another room they won't hear you.
I used it a bit the other night, but found my screen protector to make writing extremely difficult. Removing the screen protector helped the situation somewhat (I needed to replace it anyway), but it was still somewhat difficult to write without having random lines appear. Chatting appears to work but oftentimes you get pauses in between what you hear. I've been meaning to test it with a friend of mine, but he's not too interested.

I would like to ask three questions to her/him:
1. Is this app available with dswifi0.3d ?
2. If the answer for the first question is no, could you please recompile it?
3. Is it possible to chat locally, too?
----- Only WiFi to a 2nd DS nearby - no Internet connection needed!
The third question is interesting, because it won't be necessary to pull out the card anymore to use pictochat...
Many thanks
:-)
#130767 - dantheman - Thu Jun 07, 2007 7:05 pm
I'm not Moonlight, but I can attempt to answer.
1. I'm pretty sure it isn't, as this was made a long time ago, before the Lites started having Wifi issues with homebrew.
2. Dunno, you'd probably want to contact Moonlight directly, as I doubt he visits this thread. Keep in mind that he's Japanese.
3. The ad-hoc protocol has not been figured out yet, so there's no way to do DS-to-DS communication with any homebrew. The closest we've got is a demo app that sends a "test.nds" file on the root of your card to a flashed DS system through Download Play, but it only works on some devices.
