LoveLite 1.3 beta
http://lick.huuf.net/LoveLite-1.4-beta.zip (102 KB)
LoveLite 1.3 beta
What's new:
- ALL Supercard devices will now return to the sc menu. (SCLite users, please give feedback)
- GBAMP (with chishm's hack) will now return to _BOOT_MP.NDS.
- M3 devices will now return to the m3 menu. (M3CF and M3SD tested. If not working, try holding L. Please give feedback)
- EZ IV devices will return to the ez menu. (Note: it takes a few seconds before LoveLite is initialized. After that, it works though)
- EZ-Flash III and EZ-Flash II has potentially working code, but no one tested yet.
What's changed:
- The firmware is now tested before it writes the brightness. Also corrected the iQue offsets.. iQue users: Please make sure you have a -Flashed iQue- before trying this software. No tests have been done on iQue devices, because I don't have one. It should work as expected, but until people have tested it, I can't claim anything.
- The buttons were reacting too slow, now you shouldn't have any input-delays. In other words: smooth touching.
- Graphics glitches were found on some cards, also fixed.
What's about the beta?
I turned this into a beta, so that people hopefully will read the release notes. ;)
THIS SOFTWARE BRICKS YOUR DS (Disclaimer)
No, it doesn't. Yes, it bricked a few iQues (hopefully they were flashed) but the code is fixed. As you can read in the changes, the potentionally dangerous code now includes checking of the firmware before writing to it.
The release is tested on western ds'es, but make sure your firmware is flashed if you're the first person to test LoveLite on your type of hardware. (FlashMe users are 100% safe!)
Download:
http://lick.huuf.net/LoveLite-1.3-beta.zip (114 KB)
- LoveLite.nds
- LoveLite.ds.gba
- source.zip (educational purposes only; please contact me about modifications!)
To do
- Implement new device-detection code.
- Make the return feature work for even more deviceTypes.
Enjoy, and report all possible bugs so I can fix them in the next release!
Thanks,
- Lick

What exactly does LoveLite do?
#107701 - Sektor - Wed Nov 01, 2006 9:00 am
It lets you change your brightness setting on DS lites by running a file instead of using the firmware.
The code that boots M3/Supercard is the cool part, now developers can add an exit to menu function to their homebrew.

great application. Can confirm it works perfectly with DS-Xtreme f/w 1.0.1
#107723 - Lick - Wed Nov 01, 2006 4:18 pm
Thanks everyone! Yes, it's basically the 'sun-icon' of the official firmware. It started as a replacement for ALite, that seemed to forget the brightness at power off. LoveLite survives power offs and will boot back to as many as possible menu's, instead of Supercard only.
muggsy: I have a question for you. The DS-Extreme is an NDS card right? What do you have in your GBAslot when using LoveLite? Do you see a green or red flash before it returns to the bootmenu?
Thanks,
-Lick

Yes it is a slot 1 solution
It doesn't return to the boot menu. It kinda freezes.
I do recall that it is flashing green.

It only has the nintendo placeholder cart

Strange, libfat shouldn't be supporting DS-Extreme [The green flash indicates recognized fat device]. Perhaps the it's recognized as Ninja DS?
I haven't added Nina DS reset-code anyway, so hanging is perfectly normal.

I think DS-X tries to hook calls to GBAMP. It's not perfect yet but good enough to run a lot of homebrew without having to update libfat.
LoveLite will boot compatible slot2 devices if you start it from WMB, DS-X or a slot2 device.

Thing is, I'm not doing any FAT related stuff (except for the detection). If DS-X makes me detect it as a GBAMP, then I won't be able to do DS-X specific routines to make it reboot. (And I think I know how.)
So detection is very important right now.

Actually, LoveLite is pretty useless by itself, but some of it's functions are another lil' breakthrough in the homebrew. Congratulations!

I beg to differ on the uselessness claim. I do most of my playing at night, but occasionally I've got to compete with the scary ball of fusion in the sky. w/ 1.1 it was much nicer to boot an app than to into the menu bypassing the M3 boot stuff (card removal or key-presses). I haven't hit up 1.3 yet, but if it works as planned that would kick ass.
I used 1.1 just today to extend my playing time after a red LED dropping the brightness to minimum.
Maybe most people don't screw with the brightness as much. . .

Or if you like FWNITRO but don't want to lose your ability to change the brightness...
Hm, speaking of which, can this toggle the light on/off on Phat too?

HyperHacker, if you look in 'ndsx_brightness.h' you'll see that for a regular DS (Fatty), the code will turn the backlight off for level 0, and for levels 1-2-3 it will turn the backlight on.
So yes, it should work for the DS Fatty.

OK, cool. I hadn't actually tried the app since the firmware is quite capable of turning the light on and off already, though I may be interested in those reset-to-card routines...

ok so how will this work.
i am getting an m3 perfect lite and a ds-x soon.
the love lite file has an nds file and a gba file which goes where?
does this mean that if those files are on my ds-x, i can play nds files from my m3?
let me know
tks
Josh

When you run LoveLite 1.3 and press the 'Save & Return' button, it will take you to the M3 bootmenu.
If not, you're welcome to drop a line here again.
PS. It will only work on Slot2 devices. Slot1 devices like DS-Link, DS-Extreme and that kind of shit is not homebrew friendly so don't expect any support soon.

Yet. The DS-X team has expressed an intent to provide the DS homebrew community with drivers. Once wintermute gets devkitPro release 20 out, expect great things.

I would love to se actually see these mythical DS-X drivers. Sure, they've expressed support, but they haven't released anything yet...
Call me old fashioned, but until it's released, it's not released...

Well, I take it back. This application is awesome and I use it regularly (honestly, restarting the DS to change the brightness is kinda tiring and this thing even returns to the menu! :) )!

Well, just wanted to note that returning to menu doesn't work for me with SC Lite, Firmware 1.7 and FlashMe v7. I tried both the .nds and the .ds.gba, the latter one paints the upper screen red for approximately a second when trying to restart, the other only flickers both screens once when pressing "Save & Return" - but both don't return to menu.
Setting brightness works fine, though :) .
#109584 - Lick - Sun Nov 19, 2006 1:59 pm
Yes I have already fixed the SCLite bug, but I haven't released the new version of LoveLite (and also libcartreset). =/

Released LoveLite 1.4 beta. Y'know, I haven't tested it on any hardware but the changes are minimal so.. Anyway, try it!

hm .. i can't seem to find is LoveLite and libcartreset compatible with G6 equipment?
#109838 - Lick - Tue Nov 21, 2006 5:41 pm
Nope. It currently doesn't work with G6 as the people behind that device aren't willing to release source code to access (read/write) the cards (they released compiled code to read and write, but only reading works and yeah it's compiled.).
Resetting is very similar to reading and writing, so no luck in that area either.

hmm i would like to ask..
What exactly is this lovelite? Hmm..
It is just an application or it's a firmwire will will erase your original unflashed dslite?
And what does it do? I'm not sure.. I heard that u can use this lovelite to move from slot1 to slot2 supercard.. But I'm not sure how does it goes?
#114118 - felix123 - Thu Jan 04, 2007 5:02 am
It is an application for adjusting brightness of DSL.
There is a NoPass option in Supercard DS option to go from slot 1 to slot 2 anyway. You don't need another piece of software.
If you really want to, you can use cartreset test app.nds.

Lovelite is also for resetting to the flashcart menu, since it includes libcartreset.
