Nutki has released a new update:
Lameboy DS 0.8
June 12th, 2007
To celebrate Lameboy Devlog grand opening here comes new release featuring initial sound emulation. You cannot turn it off yet, but it always possible to turn it down by hardware volume control. Also you can forget about X button annoyance, just return to rom menu for autosave.
http://lameboy.ath.cx/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/lameboy_ds-08.zip
Full changelog follows:
* fixed: GBC speed change did not work for some games (like Mario Bros Deluxe)
* fixed: interrupt priority
* fixed: corrected timers interrupt frequency
* fixed: tile in foreground color 0 is transparent
* added: preliminary sound emulation
* added: auto save on exit to rom menu

I've been waiting for something like this :P.

Can anyone report on the quality of the sound/campatibility/speed/saving etc.?

Sound is pretty good, compatibility is high, speed is almost full for most games, in game saves are seemingly perfect but no save states yet.
Yes its good.
#131654 - 2jaxx - Mon Jun 18, 2007 9:29 pm
It's brilliant. B/W games work nearly perfect, in GBC games I noticed some performance trouble that results in minor music glitches or a slower framerate. I tried Zelda - Oracle of seasons, that I own but never played through because my GBC's speaker broke. And I'm very spoiled by my DS's backlight now. So I give it a new shot now.
#131658 - Tets - Mon Jun 18, 2007 10:00 pm
The sound in this version is pretty darn good for being preliminary, I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as it is.
I spent a good amount of time yesterday playing Oracle of Ages, and it works almost perfectly. There's slowdown in places with lots of enemies, some of the boss battles, and in the underwater parts with the wave effect, but it's tolerable.

A pretty GUI would be nice too.
Other colors than white for the borders. Maybe tiles?
And some sort of filtering when you expand the screen to 192 height.
#131692 - Dood77 - Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:53 am
Thanks, I'm definitely gonna try it out.

Works great, some slowdowns in games with a lot of enemies or sprites (Zelda Series and some other)
my requested features for future versions:
* select color shades for monochrome GB games like on real GBC/GBA/SGB
* correct detection and timing of RTC based games (currently Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal; make it possible to use the RTC of the DS to set Date/Time in games correctly; currently they speed up (example: currently Monday 11:45 PM, in next second it is Tuesday 6:23 AM))
* a little bit better sound
* correct upscaling when using Zoom feature

I had previously mentioned this idea for Goomba Color, thinking that the color information was stored in each game and could therefore be read by the emulator, but as it turns out, such coloring information is stored directly on the GBC BIOS, with each game having its own entry. As no one has dumped the GBC BIOS as far as I am aware, there would be no easy way to do this other than making our own database of coloring info for each individual game.
As the standard Super Gameboy palettes are fixed, those could be implemented in theory. The updated Goomba Color WIP build currently does only the first SGB palette, and I don't think this includes games with special SGB palettes, but I could be wrong.
Dwedit was the one who answered my question in the first place, so he would know more about this than I.

*I refuse to believe the CDi ones existed, they are a myth I tell you! a myth :p

I like this emulator a lot, and a new verision is great. What all was added to the new version? I can sorta understand like I guess real time clock is implemented, but is the zoom feature improved from the old one (sorry, I only know English and a tiny bit of Spanish)?
I'd download .9 but when I clicked download, it downloaded a 0 byte file that didn't have anything in it.

Yeah, the scaling is definitely better. Here's a mirror for v0.9 from Dev-Scene (you don't need to log in):
http://library.dev-scene.com/index.php?dir=DS/Emulators%2007/Lameboy/
And I noticed that the advance shop in the Zelda Oracle games isn't open when playing in Lameboy D:

Wow, I love the 0.9 version! The full screen filtering is WAY better than 0.8, and emulation is very good, except the only game I've had problems with is Pokemon Pinball, it lags for some reason...Pokemon Pinball was a rumble cartridge for GBC, it had a built in rumble motor, any possibility rumble (using DS rumble pack) could be emulated? Probably not, since it's only one or two games that use it, but it'd be nice.

Hi!
I have some odd Problems:
- Sound is very slow, sounds metallic, and sometimes the music even sounds wrong (the acchords and so on, i know it as i play instruments and have a good ear)
- Harvest Moon2: after 2 days of playing lameboy broken down. i restarted the ds, yet the game doesnt load the savegame anymore, which, according to a filebrowser, still exists?
-Still a bit laggy, but mostly playable! Excellent work.
A wish: could you get another host for the webpage?
It doesnt load for me (Europe, Germany)
#137214 - dantheman - Wed Aug 08, 2007 9:30 pm
NikiB, I'd suggest copying the save file from your card and then checking it for corruption using CHKDSK. The sound issues are probably due to the fact that it's emulating the sound in software, unlike Goomba Color that simply passed all audio commands to the GBC sound chip for hardware emulation (which can't be done with Lameboy since the GBC sound chip is only available in GBA mode).
#137230 - Dood77 - Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:10 am
Is Lameboy using the PSG? (did I get the right acronym? :P)

#140430 - Tets - Sun Sep 16, 2007 10:39 am
Did you press X to write the save data to your card? It doesn't do that automatically.
#140467 - dantheman - Sun Sep 16, 2007 6:24 pm
Alternatively, you might have pressed X thinking it would make a savestate, when it doesn't. For LA, you need to first save in-game by pressing A+B+Start+Select if I'm not mistaken. After saving that way, press X to update the *.sav file on your card with the updated save info.

This is maybe a stupid question (and a bit anoying by bumping) but anyway:
Is this officially death?

So does Nutki have a new web page, because the one posted doesn't work. I just want to know if he's still working on it, because this seems to show he still is http://cristgaming.com/pirate.swf. I'd love to get some way to emulate the IR/Link port. Imagine being able to go wireless with gameboy games. That'd be awesome.

Links to that website are usually not allowed here due to open discussion about piracy, sorry. I'll just say that the list of "future features" mentioned in that article were taken from the official site before it went down. It was never certain whether or not he would actually add them. I do not know if Nutki has continued development or if he quit after version 0.9.
#148910 - Potent1 - Fri Jan 11, 2008 9:20 pm
Thanks for the info. I just googled lameboy and found that. Someone should really edit that, or take it down, it had me going.
And by the way:

That' s correct. I have a Games n Music card, just like kirbster40, and it works great on it. But you do have to save the way you described.
