DS homebrew announcements > Spider Solitaire DS v3.0.0 [Update] 3.0.2 now available!

#134221 - JessTicular - Wed Jul 11, 2007 6:49 pm

Hello,

I've previously posted here about my Spider Solitaire DS game, and would like to let everyone know of a new version: v3.0.0

[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]
[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]

The main updates to v3.0.0 are completely new graphics, as well as a
complete engine re-write.

This version also brings with it:
- Complete re-write of the display engine
- Added sounds
- Added Ghosted cards for those which are selected
- Added a 'Congratulations' section showing score and turns
- Changed movement to be free rather than snapping to piles
- Source is much, much cleaner now, and due to modularity, should
allow for future versions of Solitaire and possibly other card games.

More information and a download of both the source code & binary of the game are available at:
http://jt0.org/projects/spidersolitaire

Webmasters, I would ask that you please do not mirror the files, nor link directly
to them, but instead link directly to the project page (above).

Thank you very much, and I hope you enjoy the game.

Cheers,
Jess - http://jt0.org

A bug reported by tekla has been fixed:

- Fixed a bug when pressing Hint twice when no possible moves would freeze the game

v3.0.1 is now available from the same places as above.

Cheers,
Jess.

Unfortunately old versions didn't seem to work on my ez4 flashcart, however fortunately this version lets me play.

Great stuff.

This bug is also in 3.0.1, when pressing Hint only once when no possible moves are available

Thanks for the heads-up jackman.

tekla also pointed this out to me, and we've been corresponding via email to get it sorted.

Unfortunatly, not having M3 hardware, it's quite hard to debug the problem, so I have had to pull out some of my old hardware that was exhibiting (some of) the same symptoms and debug that.

It looks like it's almost nailed (I actually found and removed a couple of other bugs which hadn't been seen yet in the process), so look out for v3.0.2 in a day or so.

Cheers for reporting it, mate.

OSW,
Good to hear that the new version works. Like I said in the release notes, it is a complete engine rewrite, and looking back at v2 and v1's code, it's horrible... Absolutely horrible :P

Jess.

[EDIT]
jackman, I assume you're using an M3?
I ask because you didn't actually say, but in your sig you say you're using a SuperCard, which is what I'm using and it works fine on mine.

Hi,

v3.0.2 is now available through
http://jt0.org/projects/spidersolitaire which fixes the M3
compatibility issue.

I hope there are no more M3 issues, but if there are, don't hesitate to let me know!

Cheers,
Jess - http://jt0.org

Yes, I'm using a SuperCard, but it will freeze, when hitting "A" for a hint if no hint is available

Edit:
Oh, an update, I will check it out for bugs

Edit 2:
Thanks, the bug is removed, now I hear a sound, if no hint is available and the game doesn't freeze.

I like this program :)

Bug, though:

I can not bring up more cards if any piles are empty. (If there are any gaps with no cards).

I could do you some better cards if you wish; the ones you are using are easily readible but a little plain. Nice homebrew though. Interface feels quite slick. Well, on IdeaS, at least, because I still can't find my EFA cable a month after a house move!

Or maybe you would rather play with sand? Sandscape is for you in that case.

I agree that this is a really nice game. Good work indeed!

That's one of the rules of Spider Solitaire, play any other Spider solitaire game and you'll find the same restriction.

Heh, I had a sinking feeling that I just didn't know the rules. 'my bad.

In that case, this is excellent! Finally I can do something about those bozos who waste valuable rendering time by playing spider solitaire; just hand them my DS. Thank you :)
