Would be good if you could include a DSOrganize Homebrew Database so people can easilie access the stuff.
(Although DSO has now a Download Feature)

MrShlee your site is very misleading in appearance. It looks to be a wiki, so I go to try to edit the description thats a year out of date, but it tells me I have to log in. Yet, there is no signup. Also you list homebrew by the year created but don't continue it beyond that year, so according to your site DSOrganize looks like an app that was discontinued in 06.
If you are going to use a wiki to run your site, at least make it so it's actually a wiki, instead of what appears to be editable and isn't.
Also, is it entirely necessary to mirror the updates instead of direct linking to my homepage? You are already a version out of date and it messes with my ability to track how many people download releases.

Does creating a forum account give you a valid wiki account? It does at Nookbay.

Compare other fishbowls such as Wikitruth.info and WikimediaFoundation.org.

As long as there is a link to the official site, I think mirrors are a good thing. If you lose interest (or any dever, for that matter) and your site dies, so does everything on it. Mirrors at least allow it to live on.
I understand traking downloads is beneficial, but I don't think it outways the risk for everyone else.

The reason I don't like it is his site and many others are out of date. I then get poeple who join my channel and whine about bugs that have already been fixed, and I end up chasing nothingness thinking it's resurfaced as they always forget to tell me they downloaded from X site as apposed to my site. Also, several sites in the past have distributed corrupted zip files, so I get flooded with people telling me they can't get it installed right. Also, his source mirror is 404.
Mirrors can be good when they are kept up to date, but this is seldom the case and it causes innumerable headaches on my part because someone else decided they want to host instead of me.

Theres never a reason not to have a link to the original/newest
You can have mirrors as well.

To distinguish a regression from a failure to update: "What version are you running? Press start to check."

Could you have DSO check for updates whenever the user starts Web Browser, like Mozilla Firefox does?

I prefer the content of the page to be 100% wide (other columns for organizing data can use fractions of that amount adding up to 100%), if you want it narrower you can resize the browser window. The colors I don't really care that much as long as it is readable (although in my web-site I almost always don't specify colors and let it use the default colors configured in the browser).

NOT .tk, too much advertising. Use .co.nr or something else. Just not .tk.

Seems to me you'd get the best of both worlds like so:
Quote: |
Download here
If the page is down then you can also use one of these mirrors:
[...] |
Encourage users to visit the home page and only use the mirrors if it's down, with a warning that they may be out of date. Perhaps ping the site every 12 hours or so to see if it's up, and only show the mirrors if it's not.
bleh, PHPBB won't let me use apostrophes in a URL.

I think the best of all worlds would be like Tepples just stated:

We know this is possible, as "my" concept was able to do it. (SLURP/NDSHB Hive). It would be nice to see this implemented as we know DragonMinded would do it well.

use .co.nr or .co.cc .co.cc is the best though as you don't need any ads for it.

...the best ds homebrew database I've seen so far is at http://www.moddz.com/
...but then again maybe I am just biased because they have my games.... :P
I guess this isn't really the topic - since you are creating a new one... the issue I see with this is that there are already several out there and none of them are *complete* (I know I know...it's very hard to do!) and with a constant stream of homebrews being released..you only need to neglect to update the site for a couple of weeks to find yourself WAY behind...
I've been doing news a palib.org for a while and I am ALWAYS behind :(

Moddz isn't really being updated any more, us mods don't have very much time anymore to do Fifth's work anymore.
