DS homebrew announcements > DS TO DS audio/video chat

#144943 - juz098 - Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:13 pm

Would it be possible to make a program that either connects a ds to a computer or a ds to a ds that would enable audio and video chat. via wi-fi and how to you connect a camera to a ds?

#144944 - NeX - Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:22 pm

The wi-fi bandwidth would unlikely carry the video stream quick enough to be of watchable quality. Someone connected a camera to some kind of DS card breadboard type thing. Not sure how.

Anything is possible, the question should be, has anyone done it yet. The answer would is, "No".

I sure hope that it is the you tube video quality that is causing that, it looks like it takes multiple seconds for 1 frame

some company is now selling a card that allows the ds to enter all kinds of wifi acces points (not only 11mbit, but also the 54 and hundred something mbit ones), since as u probably know the ds uses just a fraction of its potential (dunno why, nintendo things...) and therefore, a fluent online video streaming as youtube would also be possinle. is possible. The drames in that thing is because of the camera i think though...

Are you certain of that? Where does this 'card' go? Does it actually interact with the built in DS hardware?

I can 'enter' fine to my 125mb/s wi-fi router with the DS as it is. It obviously doesn't reach that speed though.

The "DSCam" program may be a good place to start your search. I created http://dannysied.googlepages.com/DSstreamingpossibilities.mpg for a different topic which sorta demonstrates a possible use for it.

Not sure if sourcecode is available for studying though, but you could probably contact the author about it.

You're site seems not to be working, do you mind looking into it? Is it possible to have a camera connect to the ds via download play?

#145142 - dantheman - Mon Nov 12, 2007 12:18 am

I didn't create DSCam, and I don't know much about how it works other than the fact that it sends images from your webcam to the DS over wifi. If you're referring to the mpeg file, it worked fine for me 5 seconds ago. Open it in VLC if you have to.

do u know if you could have an 802.11 camera that would connnect to the ds?

DSCam, modified ever so slightly, is D Scam, or The Scam. Coincidence?

Er...

Yeah...

Sorry, but that sounds like a load of old tosh to me.
