DS homebrew announcements > DS running a Webserver

#147031 - sonny_jim - Thu Dec 13, 2007 3:00 pm

I've just finished porting the Boa web server to DSLinux and I've set up a small site using Scorpei's design.

http://ds.servehttp.com

I'll leave it on for most of the day today and Boa should be showing up in the official builds in the next couple of days.

damn crazy :)

How can I set up my own one? :D

#147045 - sonny_jim - Thu Dec 13, 2007 7:19 pm

I've commited my code to the dslinux svn but unfortunately it hasn't shown up in the builds on kineox yet. If you really can't wait you need to compile your own version from svn using the instructions here:

http://dslinux.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/CompilingDSLinux

Once you've got a build sorted you can follow the instructions here to get boa up and running:

Running DSLinux
Setting up wireless networking
Using the boa webserver

That sounds like a lot of really hard (for me) work to me... I didn't know that http://kineox.free.fr/DS/ existed, I'll just keep watching it for the next few days. Thanks for your help :)

It is true that one of the problems of DSLinux is the fact that it can be a pig to setup networking if you haven't had any Linux experience before. The simplest way is to run:
Code:

wnc

Which is a menu driven configuration system.

Also Kineox has now updated his builds to include Boa. Other new applications include:

tar - GNU tape archiving utility
gzip/bzip2 - Compression utilities
minizip - PKware compatible zip/unzip
ncftp - Curses based FTP client
inadyn - Dynamic DNS client
xmp - Extended Module player, supports about 80 different formats

EDIT: Also included is PlayTZX, a Spectrum tape file player. If anyone manages to get a Spectrum ZX to boot with this I'd be very much interested in hearing about it!

its up @ http://kineox.free.fr/DS/ (i think)

EDIT: so how do i get a domain name or w/e like http://dslinux.kicks-ass.net:1337/

Have a read of this section of the DSLinux wiki, in a nutshell you need to:

Sign up for an account at a free dyn dns service
Add a hostname
Enter the information into the inadyns configuration file
Port forward port 80 on your router to your DS.

http://kineox.free.fr/DS/ isn't a DS webserver, it's just where the 'official' DSLinux builds are held.

hmm... so i tried everything out, i got a default.html in the right place, i run the command, and it says "starting boa" or something, then drops back to the command arrow thing,

even if i use the ds's local ip i still cant seem to get and pages loaded, and (dunnno if it matters) i also cant ping the local address, what could i be doing wrong?

If you can't ping the DS then you probably don't have wireless working. Can you ping things from the DS itself?
