Hardware > Nintendo Micro Conversion Connector

Has anyone actually even seen one of these puppies for themselves?

Game Boy Micro Conversion Connector at Froogle

I'm beginning to wonder if Nintendo actually ever produced these. Nobody has ever actually had them in stock, as far as I'm aware, and now that the GBA is officially end of life, I guess I'm screwed if I want to play linkup games between my Micro and SP?

{{fact}} :P

I've been interested in getting one myself.

I assume (maybe incorrectly) that it's the same pins as the gba version, but just a different connector....which means that it wouldn't be too hard to make one if you had an extra power cord for the micro.

This, in the UK, would do the job:

#117261 - gauauu - Fri Feb 02, 2007 10:47 pm

Yup, but I can't find a store that would ship one to the U.S....

#117268 - mog123 - Fri Feb 02, 2007 11:52 pm

wouldn't it be better to buy 2 cables, one for the gbm and one for gba and solder them up?

#117279 - gauauu - Sat Feb 03, 2007 2:22 am

Probably....it's just hard to find gba micro cables at all....let alone finding
pinout information about the micro adapter

Would this diagram be of any use to you? I know of one person who successfully used that chart to create a female GBA-> male GBMicro link cable so he could program his flash cartridge on a GBM

Not really, the problem is obtaining the cables.

I got some on eBay a couple of days ago but unfortunately they're no use for the purpose I wanted which was building a gbm xboo cable.

The link is http://tinyurl.com/yrl5qw if you're after some. They should still be useful for making a link cable for games.

Actually, that link is really handy. I can get a new gba micro A/C adapter, which uses the same connector, for a few dollars here. Just didn't want to buy one until I could find that schematic....

is that it?

#118825 - gauauu - Sat Feb 17, 2007 4:07 am

It sure looks like it, based on the tiny product description. We'll find out when I get the one I ordered :)

#118844 - hamilton - Sat Feb 17, 2007 10:33 am

good, hope you are in luck....

When looking for a Nintendo related item, always try Nintendo themselves first. Sometimes they even give you free stuff for being a loyal customer.

Glad i was able to assist you in your quest.

"Your search - Game Boy Micro Conversion Connector - did not match any products in Froogle."

Yeah, nothing there 'bout no Gameboy Micro connector, if you want one, try Nintendo..... (see my previous post)....... or are you just being picky about the empty Froogle link??

#119022 - HyperHacker - Mon Feb 19, 2007 3:49 am

Just pointing it out. I don't have nor need a GB Micro, unless the rumours of it still having GBC support tucked away are true (ha!).

yeah thankyou, but i gave him the Nintendo direct link you have posted above, about a month ago. Check the previous page's post's......
hopefully he got the adaptor he needs....
i really dont understand why people go straight to third parties for this kind of thing rather than nintendo themselves, that just seems like common sense to me...

Because for most products out there, you can't buy the thing straight from the company that makes it. It didn't even occur to me to look at nintendo's website for this thing....

#122429 - hamilton - Mon Mar 19, 2007 8:06 am

i was not intending to insult or insite you in any way gauauu, just offering my prefered stategy for dealing with these kind of matters.
You might be suprised by how many company's will send you the item you request free of charge if they have (or in some cases dont) their customer support department implemented effectively.
Hope you got the adaptor you requested and that it is serving you well.

#122466 - gauauu - Mon Mar 19, 2007 2:51 pm

Don't worry, I didn't think you were insulting me directly. I was just explaining why so many of us don't think to look at Nintendo's site directly.

I got the adapter..it's not serving me quite as well as I thought...I should have looked at it more closely....I thought it converted to let you plug your gba male connector into your micro. But it's the opposite...it lets you plug a micro male connector (yeah, who has those?) into your regular gba. Oh well...

:)

#122569 - hamilton - Tue Mar 20, 2007 7:54 am

damn that does sound like an odd connector.
Depending on what you want to use this cable for, and possibly how creative you are, this link may be of assistance to you.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79849

If you just want a GBA female to GBmicro cable, that's possible to build.
Male to male micro cables can be found via Nintendo, or more cheaply on Ebay, and just replace one end with a GBA female connector, which can be found on various GBA extention cables etc.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GameBoy-Advance-GBA-SP-Multi-link-Cable-2-Player-Ports_W0QQitemZ290095950082QQcategoryZ41034QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If it's all too much trouble for you, there is a possibility that i could maybe build such a cable for you.......
What purpose is this cable for anyway?

#122584 - gauauu - Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:11 pm

Yeah, I figured one of these days I'd hack one up myself if I ever got the time.

The point of the cable...I have an SP with issues, so I bought a micro on the cheap, not realizing how different it was. I hoped this cable would let me:

1. Use my existing SP link cable to link up the gba's for multiplayer
2. Use my lpt->gba cable with my micro.

#122588 - gorka - Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:37 pm

I want to buid a midi out cable for my GBM as the one shown here for GBA:
http://gba.gabiot.com/index_en.html#hardware

I guess the easiest way to go ahead is to get a GBM link cable and a GBM2GBA adapter cable and proceed as explain in that link, however I never liked easy things... :-)
Are there any suppliers of GBM type connectors available so that I can make my own cable?
Does anyone know what does the "GBM link cable hub" does in the link bellow?

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79849

Did the GBA also have that hub?

Thanks
