Hardware > Problem with cleaning my GBA LCD

#167917 - ReiKo - Fri Apr 03, 2009 1:25 pm

Hello,

I'm having problems with little dust or something that is white-dot like on my GBA LCD screen.

Nothing big, but it sometimes bugs me when I play games.

Problem is that I would like to try to clean it to remove that white dot, but I don't know how to remove top part of GBA so I can reach LCD screen.

First problem is the rubber "screws" that I don't know how to open.

Could someone with experience with these type of things help me?

Thanks.

how would something get in there? are you sure it is not just a stuck pixel on the lcd screen? if the red, green, and blue are stuck open it will look white.

The "white dot" is still there when i turn LCD off.

Hm, how can I check it is a stuck pixel?

I heard there are some techniques to "wake" pixel that has been stuck to one of RGB colors.

Any suggestions?
I am guessing you have not tried the "Search" functionality on this site. might I suggest "stuck AND pixel" ;)

No problem man.

Anyway, how could I solve my problem ? How to just make quick dissassemble of that front panel that holds LCD so I can clean that little dust?

I am pretty sure you need a tri-wing screwdriver.

But how to dissassembly that upper part? Is it by removing that rubber thingies or?

I did a web search and yes, there are tri-wing screws under the rubber pads. It mentions prying the assembly apart once the screws are out. Is the problem really that bad? I think you could really destroy your gba trying to fix it.

Well, it's not that bad but I would really preffer clear screen :D

if that's anyway near the NDS pad it's just glued on the screw, you should be able to remove it using a knife to lift them (lift, not cut them...)...

Will I be able to put that "rubber screws" back when I'm finished?

once again, if they are like nds one yes, they seemed to be fixed with something like double faced adhesive tape... and you can always glue them after...
