Hardware > Nintendo DS screens higher resolution

#177523 - hacker013 - Sat Jul 21, 2012 7:26 pm

Is it possible to replace the nintendo ds screens with ones with higher resolution without modifying other hardware?

And yes the case is modded to fit the bigger screen.

You could make the screen higher-res all you want, but the video chip that generates the image won't be affected, it will still be generating a 256x192 image.

Think about what you are asking. The games were designed for 256x192, which means all the artwork/graphics/etc are all at 256x192 or smaller.

Simply put, "quality comes from the source of the stream"

You could upscale them all you want, but it would still be 256x192 resolution and therefore would look 'blocky'.

You'd need to rewrite each game from scratch if you wanted them to run in a higher resolution, which is damn near impossible and beyond the scope of this forum.

p.s My first post in years, *sigh*

there would be a perceptible improvement for 3d if it was rendered at a higher resolution even with the same assets. but yeah, changing the lcd is not going to get that done.

Maybe he wanted to write his own homebrew for that DS+ ... why not? :)
