I know the GBA Movie Player (v2) reads from compact flash cards and is relatively cheap. I believe it uses firmware to launch it's different applications. Are there any firmware hacks available for it to run homebrew GBA code?
Searched, but couldn't find any.

From their website about playing FC games:

Before you play a FC game, do remember to put the Pocketnes.gba file in the root directory on your CF Card. |
Has anyone tried throughing a GBA game on there and simply changing the name?

The newer GBA Movie Player firmware can run commercial and homebrew GBA games made in .mb format, such as Panel de Pon and TOD.

...as long as your game or app stays below 256kb. :)

More like 192k. It refused to load the wario ware trials because they were too big. Maybe a compression self extractor would help.

Didn't you make a couple of those?

No, those were pogoshell plugins. I haven't made one that does self-extraction yet.

Forget the GBA Movie Player, go buy the Supercard. you can play GBA/GB/NES/SMS/etc... game on it, listen to music, watch videos and abundance of other things. It is easier to use if your not going to dev games on it. the only down side is that if you like cheats you can only use the ones provided by the makers of Supercard. Other than that it work well.
