Hardware > hblank sprites

I'm wondering... how many 8x8 regular sprites is the hardware able to render [without flicker] each scanline? I know the number of cycles per line but I'm not sure how long an 8x8 sprite takes.

Thanks, I got my answer. I suppose that the "H-Blank Interval Free" bit is used to make sure that your hblank routine is executed on time--it's all good, anyways.
