I've just modded a flashcart to include a blue LED, so now it glows when the GBA is swiched on.
You can see the pictures here -

My soldering isn't to good, but I didn't bridge anything (the second time) and the cart still works fine.[/url]

I like it =) Was it as simple as it looks? just solder the 2 wires and it works?

Indeed it was. Are you thinking of doing something similar?

perhaps :) but I'm not sure, I bought some carts for my game and they have transparent cases. Knowing me I'll short the cart trying (with my super shaky hands soldering skills).

I accidentally bridged a couple of connections first. All that happened was the cart didnt register when i switched on the gba, when i sorted it, it worked fine.

so connecting the 2 sides of any game would power something, how much volts does this give? and would it affect the performance in any way?
#77875 - spinal_cord - Mon Apr 03, 2006 8:05 pm
I think its avout +3.3v (but im not sure on that) im sure the serial port puts out power, it would be a bit better. As for affecting performance, I havent noticed anything yet.

just wondering, would we be able to make a GBASP or DS charger from this? :p charge a friends DS from your own.
or charge your own DS from your old GBA

That has to be the weirdest idead I have ever heard...
I haven't a clue if that would work.

dude,
i just got an idea from this :P
a product that someone can try to make :P
make a false GBA cart that has a battery inside,
so it can prevent against dust and extend your ds's battery life :P
(would it charge through the gba slot?, i hope it would :P)
this mod would be usefull if you were on a long trip (camping)
and your ds needs to be charged sometime in there :P

I don't think you can charge from the GBA slot, with a wire coming from the game and plugging into the charger slot then that'd be OK.
You can easilly make a USB charger by cutting up a random USB wire and a DS/GBASP charger. i think USB is 5 volts or so, would 3.3v do anything other than make the charge-up a bit slower?

surely it would be just a easy to carry a spare battery and a screwdriver with you?

bleh...changing the screws is annoying.
I agree about the usb charger. Or do what my friend did...use 4 AA cells in series to generate 6 volts (Which most USB-charging devices can handle), put that in a battery pack with a USB plug. Makes a handy way to run rechargable devices off of regular AA's if you need to.
edit: series/parallel...you know what I meant.

I already looked into that, and I don't have any spare USB ports

i still think someone should try to see if you can charge a ds through gba slot :P,
makes the charger more portable,
and it doesn't have the mess of having a wire go in and out.
(lol,
if you really wanted this to happen,
just add two wires to the ds charger from the gba slot,
to run power going into the gba slot to the battery :P...
but of course nintendo wouldn't like that :P)

Surely that wouldnt do anything at all, routing power from the battery, through the gba slot, back to the battey. That would just be a waste of wire.

from my (little) knowledge of hardware, I will simply ask 1 question (with a few more added in brackets):
Does the GBA slot give out enough power? (and which slot are you talking about? the link cable? the GBA SP was the only one with a power socket, what if you wanted to charge from original GBA? surely being powered by and old gba game would work for both GBA and GBASP)

I made a battery pack that charges my gba... 4 double AA's - outputs 6 V - you can see the details on my website. Of course - I am using the standard port for power - not the slot on the gba. Works great - a set of normal double AA's can recharge the battery about 5 times while playing.
