Coding > Writing to OAM during frame render, what happens?

What happens when you write to OAM while the frame is rendering?
(I'm assuming bit 5 of DISPCNT "H-Blank Interval Free" is 0)

I think that you can't. The hardware won't allow it.

Or at least, that's the impression I've been under. I've never tried it myself.
