Exceptional Software Technologies sent a mail to us earlier this week announcing their new gba audio player.

We have a realtime compressed audio player available for the GBA, with a good quality/size ratio

Demos are downloadable on www.esofttech.co.uk

43 kbps or 64 kbps, mono, at 16 kHz? How much do you want to bet that this is just ADPCM?

I'm working on my own 4-bit ADPCM codec, which I will release as free software. I've already tweaked it to sound quite a bit better than IMA ADPCM (mostly through measures to hide slope overload), and it takes 15% CPU for 18157 Hz mono playback. A half hour of music would fit in a 128 Mbit cartridge.

EDIT: I recompile with DevKit Advance R5 beta 3, and it's down to 6% CPU. I'm busy packaging it for public release.
