I have received an email from Team17 requesting that I halt development of my Alien Breed conversion because a new AB game tie in is in production across all platforms. Therefore, I will complete the game but will not release it or any WIPs at this time.

Too bad, dude.

Experience points. Never skip 'em.

I'm just glad that the commercial companies completely ignore the TI83+ homebrew games which bored high school students make. James Vernon has made a 'port' of an Alien Breed game to the TI83+ already.

I don't think Team17 are looking to release AB on the TI89+, so they aren't going to lose money. If they release it on the DS and a homebrew version is available for free, that's a totally different kettle of fish.

I'm coding on the GBA. Am I in danger from Nintendo?

Unlikely, unless you can think of a specific exclusive right that they might threaten you with. And the boot logo doesn't count, at least in the States; search for "accolade" to see why.

To "alien8r33d": Take all "Alien Breed" branding and artwork out of the game, and you can probably continue the development under a different name, as the Stratagus developers did.

There was no threat of legal action from them. Just a request. Matter of fact they also pointed out that they are currently seeking programmers.... Trouble is, nobody wants us old assembly language coders anymore. They all want programmers fluent in that new fangled C/C++ nonsense.

You should talk to them, I always found Team17 a really good company to work with, and they have a great ethos. Only down-side is, apparently, they have a worms infestation...

Jamie. :P

Say that again, but this time, with a sharp... ;^D
