Are you saying you only modified the datafiles from Quake 1 to get Quake 3 Arena running?

I believe he is using a Quake 1 mod that acts like Q3A?

did you need to modify it so it would work with quakeds? not sure what you mean by added it to quakeds. you gave credit to the simon for the port but you did not give credit to the person that made the mod in the first place. if you are not careful people are going to think you are claiming credit for other peoples work.

#174518 - sonny_jim - Sat Jun 19, 2010 3:35 pm

To be fair, they only said this:
Quote:

the thing is i made quake arena run on ds

So they aren't really claiming to have written the Q3A mod, but they could of been a little clearer in what they had done.

@jam_888:
It's a good idea to edit your first post to put in links to Simon's QuakeDS project and the homepage or wherever you found the Q3A Q1 mod.

Have you asked Simon if it's ok to distribute his code? I don't think you should be bundling them together like that. Really you should provide the Mod and instructions on how to use it.

EDIT: Also, have you contacted electro__ben@hotmail.com, who seems to have created the Mod?

He doesn't need to ask for permission to redistribute GPL'ed code. But there are lots of other details to iron out to be in the clear; AFAIK, source code should be offered right next to any binaries, for instance. Let's face it, the GPL is a bitch.

#174657 - wintermute - Tue Jul 06, 2010 1:31 am

GPL only needs an offer to provide source on request. Obviously providing source alongside binaries will save you a lot of grief from the zealot brigade though :p
