ASM > [GBC] Setting background palette identifiers

Hello everyone! (If this isn't the right place to ask a GBC question, please let me know of somewhere more suitable)

Today I have a newbie question: how do you set the palette ID for individual tiles on a map? I looked all around but couldn't find anything... With sprites this is simple, but not with backgrounds.

There are two planes for background tiles.
One plane stores the tile number, the other plane stores the color number, tile bank, X-Y flipping, and high priority bits.
