Graphics > 8x8 font

#37423 - hakanyuksel - Fri Mar 11, 2005 5:00 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find 8x8(or any other size) font files as bmp like graphic format.

And do you know a graphic editor has palette operations better than adobe photoshop. What do you use for editting 2d sprites and palettes.

Thanks

I personally recommend Jasc Paint Shop Pro, up to version 8 for the big jobs (9 being too huge to handle), and/or Cearn's MSPaint clone Usenti, which has far superior palette handling, for the precise spriting work.

I've collected these 8x8 pixel fonts for a project on the nesdev board.

I got this collection a while ago, I can't remember where. There are alot of .lbm files so I guess they're from the Amiga demo scene. There are a few 8x8 fonts but most are bigger. Anyways, you can download from http://members.iinet.net.au/~freeaxs/download/fonts.zip

SWEET!

I was just about to ask for something similar. Does anybody know of any tools that can be used to slice one of these files up into individal "letter" image files? If not, it would probably be pretty easy to cook one up using DevIL or something like that.

Also, does anbody know of a similar repository for packages of sprites / backgrounds etc, kind of like a Turbo Squid for 2D games?

Not sure if it's of any use, but after reading your post, I decided to release some background tilesets made for a demo I was working on.

The tilesets would mostly be of use for a Castlevania or Ghouls'n Ghosts style game. (I posted it in another thread in the graphics section. Our demo is also available from the previously mentioned link.)

Ok, I wrote a little command line app that will slice an image into a set of tiles of a size specified by the user, export it to another file type (i.e. .png -> .pcx), etc. If anybody would find something like that useful, I can clean it up a bit and post it someplace.

This is a very useful topic; maybe that image should be linked to in the FAQ!
