Graphics > Bitmapped Fonts

Hello

I am looking for free bitmapped fonts (8x8 or 16x16). The fonts should be in a form easy to be converted to sprites/tiles. So far I have found only a bunch of free Amiga fonts, but I have no tools to convert these to BMPs.

Any suggestions or ideas will be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I uploaded an 8x8 font I made for my game at http://www.angelfire.com/wizard/deku/font.bmp
Feel free to use it/modify it (lower case letters are a little hard to read)/whatever, since I'll probably use TonoMoji instead (from http://j-gbadev.hp.infoseek.co.jp/sakuhin/), which is a Japanese font (might as well make it easy to translate even though I probably won't even be able to find someone to publish it here), but has 8x8 and 8x16 regular characters too, and they're all 1-bit, which is good for size. Takes a little time to render them, but since I'm just makign an RPG, it shouldn't be a problem.

DekuTree64:

I tried but I was not able to download it (File Not Found Error). BTW, your RPG artwork is very nice.

Thank you.

Ah, sorry about that, didn't realize that it's Font.bmp, not font.bmp. Case sensitive^^

There's an 8x8 pixel font in Multiboot Menu that you can use freely.

I use a full ASCII (all 256 chars) font in my keyboard advance project. Some of the multilingual chars (??????) are not perfect, but at least it's a font.

I just put together a quick guide to show you how to
get free True Type Fonts and convert them to Bitmaps
to use in your games/demos/etc. The best part is,
everything is free!

But the fonts themselves may not be. Font designs can be patented in at least the United States, and they fall under an automatic copyright upon creation in the European Union for the life of the author plus 70 years and in Japan for the life of the author plus 50 years. I'd suggest talking it over with your font foundry's legal department before you commit to using a font in a program that you intend to distribute.

You have a good point, tepples. What I meant to say is that if
you use the software and fonts found in my howto, they are
free for _non-commercial_ use. If you want to make a game,
create your own fonts!!!
